When you get a chance, check out Camp Snoopy at Mall of America in Bloomington. Its open year round. Its worth a visit.

The State Fair in August has a good variety of spin n' spews, a few small roller coasters, and some extreme rides like the skyscrapper, ejection seat and a free-fall drop attraction. Sorry to say that is it!
Being up in Duluth certainly limits your options. Big Chiefs in Wisconsin Dells is only about 3 hours from Minneapolis, but it would be quite a trek from Duluth.

One other thing that is sort of coasterish is alpine slides. There's a decent track a few hours north at the Lutsen ski resort, and another one (and a small waterpark) at Wild Mountain in Taylor's Falls.

And definitely go to the State Fair when it rolls around in August.

DaNo - go to this site and do a search for Valleyfair. You should find a "parks nearby" link on the Valleyfair info page that will give you all the details you need. FYI keep in mind it'll list defunct parks, too.
