Mitch's Steel Poll Results

Jubilee Odyssey was pretty low down, which considering this is Vekoma's best ever offering (which doesn't say much) seems pretty strange. Sounds like sabotage to me, from people who never got to ride it because it was closed.

Great to see Phantoms Revenge that high, it totally deserves to be up there. The air on that thing is like no other.

Agreed. The way it was running this year, especially, Phantom's Revenge is well-deserving of a Top 10 spot.

I too am delighted to see PR in the Top 10. This past summer was the first time I've ridden it. Wow! That thing has some kick! The air is amazing and slams you down hard in some parts. Nothing to complain about though. Off the top of my head, the only steel that beats it is King Cobra...

I can't believe 2 people in the poll rode The Blue Flash.

I was happy to see Xcellerator so high up. One trick pony but one heck of a trick and some insane air going over that top hat although I have yet to experience dragster to see how that compares. Maybe next summer.

If you were trusting the polls to tell you some places you might want to go, or the general trends in enthusiast circles, then I don't see how your experience overturns that.

I was always used to trusting what the polls said about what rides are pretty good. Now that I've actually been somewhere and discovered what i truly like , I know that I'm way different from most people's opinions.

I mean , what person (with at least 40 coasters in their track record) would have two coasters ranked past 140th as their #1s?

Are people's opinions not allowed to differ? One of my best coaster buddies puts GASM (GAdv.) as his #1 for sentimental reasons. Should I not value his opinion on other coasters?

You're welcome to your opinion of the poll, but I think it's a great resource (when taken with a grain of salt) for figuring out what's hot and what's not.

I'm not sure where you got the part about me not letting people's opinions differ.

It's just that I've figured out that polls like this now don't have any effect(or affect:)) on my thoughts about the rides. I don't care about them. Polls don't say why people liked the ride or whatnot. I rely much more on reviews now , because I know that most of the General enthusiasts do not agree with my tastes in the slightest. I know that I hate Laterals more than anything , while many people find them as their favorite sensation. Same with Floater air. But then , I rank loops as my favorite steel coaster sensation. I like Intensity more than Anything.

It's cool: I just had to move for job reasons - far far away from SFMM and all my favourite coasters, now I live in the middle of nowhere, but with the worlds best steel coaster just close by.. EGF.
