Mission: Space set to return Epcot to its glory days of technology

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Nearly two decades since the launch of Epcot, Disney Imagineers are finally ready to unveil a new attraction that combines space flight technology with Disney storytelling. Mission: Space won't officially open until Aug. 15, but sneak previews, now occurring intermittently, are expected to continue throughout the summer. The new ride is considered to return Epcot to its core value of innovation and futuristic feel.

The ride sounds like a great ride, but how would I know if I should let my father or sister get on it? They get really dizzy, and it sounds like it at some point spins. I don't want the surpirse to be takena way, but can it make guest a the park dizzy?
I was there a few weeks ago, and let me tell you that the ride looks awesome. I was dissapointed that it was not open yet, but the building that houses the ride looks incredible. This attraction, combined with Test Track (Which I thought was a blast), could really start attracting more people to Epcot.

Let's hope that this leads to more theme-based Disney rides and not just amusement park-type ones like those found in CalifAdv (mostly in the waterfront area). Let's also hope that the queue entertainment is better than SMTV (from SpaceMountain).

Purple cows eat silver moon pies, among fiesty, glowing fireflies.

WoodenCyclone, I heard if you keep looking straight in front of you, towards the screen, the risk of getting dizzy is very little.
If you lean your head forwards, you get sick within the second ;)

Anyway, I hope they build one of those in Paris...we need something big at the Magic Kingdom or a major Studios expansion within 5 years or they go bankrupt overhere.

Mission: Space, says Lance Hart, an industry insider who includes theme park-related news on his Screamscape Web site

That has to be the funniest thing I've read in months.. Industry insider... Wasn't he the one who said Wicked Twister was gonna be over 300 feet?

Frightzone Screamster - 2002-2003

I would consider him an insider. Screamscape hits the nail on the head most of the time.
Even if the head is about 100 feet from where they say it will be... ;)

He lost his "insider" status when he published the drawing of Tomb Raider before it was public that it was a Top Spin. Well, that and when he started publishing anything a 13-year old kid would send him.

DELETED! What time does the water show start?

ouch, thats got to hurt, jeff nice left hook there. Can Lance get up of the floor from that one!! I can see a screamscape vs coasterbuzz flame war starting here!!

Hell lets be honest we all probably check screamscape every now and then to see some rumours, i know i do. It gets the old imagination going.

Well but see that's the difference between Screamscape and CoasterBuzz. Screamscape is News and RUMORS, CoasterBuzz is virtually all news. Not every rumor is going to be true, but a lot of them turn out having at least some kind of truth to them. I give Lance credit for everything he does, and I also give Jeff a lot of credit for what he does. I visit both sites on a regular basis, and I see no reason for siding with either site.

SFGAdv's 30th anniversary next year...I can't wait!

I honestly don't think Screamscape is that bad with the rumors. I believe that award would go to the former Thrillride site. When it got up to 12 pages of rumors, it got way out of control. I like the artwork for new rides on Screamscape a lot, plus some of the pictures I've never seen such as Sledge Hammer at PCW. Was it cool to release the blueprints for Tomb Raider? Probably not. But, it didn't stop a lot of the readers on this site from thinking it was a total fraud as they pushed on for another coaster in the dark.

If you have a problem with clones, the solution is real simple—Stop traveling.
I was there in the evening on 6/21, and although the ride was closed, they did have the queue area televisions on showing the pre-ride background story. I didnt get to hear the audio since I was too far away, but I could however clearly watch the video, and let me tell you, the ride looks like its going to be cool. I cant wait to see whats next, especially what develops with Epcots next ride which although they have not announced details, Disney did say it will take the place of the Spaceship Earth ride, although the sphere will remain with the new ride inside of it. It will also be sponsored by Microsoft. It is rumored to be yet another thrill ride, possibly a coaster, to help Epcot improve its appeal to the 11-25 year old crowd. I cant wait to see what Disney does with this.
