Space.com recently had a chance to kick the tires and look under the hood of Epcot's new Mission: Space, set for a soft opening August 15, with the official opening in October.

What exactly is a "soft" opening? I am vacationing to the orlando area during the week of august 17th and if Mission: Space will be open, I'll be sure to make a stop at Epcot as I can only go to two parks and possibly Old Town. And on another note, has anyone ever stayed at the Silver Lake Resort in kissimmee? Thats the current plan for a place to stay, and if anyone has any experience or information on this resort or any others nearby, that would be great.

A soft opening means it won't run every day for awhile until they can be 100% sure it'll perform without problems everyday. Pretty smart if you ask me.

i have stayed at the silver lake resort, and i hated every mintute of it, i was about 14 when i stayed there, and i couldnt do anything, at certain times of the day, only the elderly can have the pool for work outs, they removed the arcade for some reason, and the billiard room has a 18 yr old age limit, plus it stinks, the fishing in the lake is bogus. plus the majority of the people are cranky elderly people. When i left i though i had stayed at a retirement home.
Sorry about the bad news

last week at epcot they were giving park guests a special "preview" of the attraction. some people were actually getting to ride the ride too.

seek first to understand
then to be understood

I was one of the lucky ones to ride it, and i LOVED IT

It is everything it is cracked up to be

Ok, so the ride won't be open every day. So, could I call the park and see when it will be open? Well, Jared, thanks for an honest opinion. Guess, fun will be harder to come by than I thought. It will be tough to choose another park to go to besides the definite Islands of Adventure. At least I have a spiffy new Dell 8300 Desktop to play with.
