Mission: Space?

Does anyone have any information on when this new Epcot attraction is going to open? I have looked all over the internet and can't seem to find a common answer.

Does anyone have any information? Thanx

On the Disboards they have been saying that training has begun already on new Cast Members for this attraction and that judging by previous E-Ticket openings to expect a soft opening in May with a grand opening in early June.

Cool! I was just at Epcot this past March and was very disappointed that MSpace wasn't open. I am going back at the end of June, so hopefully with any luck, the ride will be operational. Thanx for your input.

I was there in late February and the building looked absolutely fantastic. I really wish I would have put off my vacation for a few months to catch it's opening because I will likely not get back to Epcot for a couple years now.

I agree! The building is a marvel on its own. If the ride isn't amazing, which it might not be considering what Disney has put out the last few years in all. I wouldn't be surprised if it sucked. I hope not! I want to be blown away by something unique and different. Disney has the power and resources to do it but will they be successful? What do you think?
Kickthesky: That sounds great, but I'm not sure if it will be that soon. Last thing I read about 6 weeks ago said that only one of the 40 pods was installed and operational. Here's hoping it is ready for summer, though! :)

I heard it was supposed to open in December. What's taking them so long I have no clue. Has it been 4 yrs already?

Disney develops new programs and everything for their attractions, so the basically build them from scratch. I expect this one to be good considering how long it is taking them. They must be doing something really amazing.

From what i heard from two different sources, two very different dates. The first one is that there will be a soft opening in July and a grand opening in August. Another source told me they won't have the grand opening until the first week of December, while if fine with me since i'm going to WDW the second week of December.

Good Disney rides usually take a while to make, Indianna Jones took seven years.

it is supposed to open officially in June with a soft opening in May. My mentor for a school project is a ride engineer at Disney (Chief) and is currently working on the ride. I asked him what was taking so long and he simply said that they wanted to make sure all the kinks were out. That is all he was able to say about it, so take it as you will.

Well thats better news. Does anyone have any specs of the ride itself. Or have any other imformation about the ride a buiding. What eles is going inside the building? I remember hearing something about smaller attractions inside the building. Can anyone confirm this?

Could someone give me some info on M:S? I dont know a whole lot about it....
...and you're not the only one. Disney is very clandestine about their big projects.

Mission Space Official Opening:

Today is the moment we all have been waiting for. It was announced today that Mission Space will have a soft opening on August 15, while a grand opening wont happen until sometime in October. This is great news to finally actually know a date. Big day for Disney as they announced the opening of Pop Century (Dec. 14) Expedition Everest, and Mission Space. Iron Dragon, not to much is known about Mission Space besides that you will feel like your launching up into space, and brief seconds of weightlessness (due to the centrifuge effects). For anyone who would like to cofirm the opening and for great pictures of this amazing ride please click below.

Besides the starting date for the soft openings, we also know that there will be four different "jobs" for each pod that they riders can choose to do (all four must be done in each pod). Also it has been confirmed that there will be a "play area" for kids who are not tall enough to ride, but whose families still want to ride. Fast Pass of course will be on this ride, as they have already been installed to the right of the red ball entrance. (that and the "fast pass return" signs have been put up.

This is actually the first attraction that went into the design phase with FASTPASS specifically in mind. Expect it to really gobble up people!

Just some random trivia: Disney started the whole queue management craze with FASTPASS when Test Track opened. Lines for TT were upwards of 4 or 5 hours, so, in a last ditch effort to maintain crowd control, FASTPASS was born.
