Millennium Force lift cable snap pics available

Guess what happened when I went to Cedar Point the Sunday of Labor Day weekend, 2001? That's right, the lift cable snapped during morning test runs stranding half a train of employees. It's been two weeks since the incident and all is well with the ride after necessary repairs were made.

Wow... I knew the cable damaged the anti-rollback notches but I didn't know it was really that bad! No wonder it took so long to replace.

So close to be going over, and then stop.  That is more scary than the ride itself.  I remeber when we were doing commerical shoots, and they did that.  It was so scary just to be stuck up there for less than 15 seconds.  I could not imagine hours.
Yeah it would be scary to half to stand up and get out of the car at that angle too.  Cool pictures though.

I was wondering how they got down. I only rode it once but I thought I remembered that there was no stairway on the lift hill. There's a little bucket that goes up. I wouldn't want to climb out of the train into that bucket.
Nice Job Scott!

Notice how f'd up the I beam was too.

If you are intimidated by the bucket, how'd you like to have to do the morning inspection.  Ride the bucket up then get out on the little walkway and walk over the top to the far side to push the button.  (There is a button that has to be pushed up there to verify that the inspection occurred.)
Nice Job!

Great pics.

I really like your site, it's got a good layout.

Wouldn't want to be in the way of the cable when it snapped!

Ouch...

Wow, I think they would have had to shoot me with a tranquilizer dart and bucket my unconscious butt down. I love MF but I am really bad when it comes to being at a sustained height like that.
Was it just me or was the people who were stuck a little young? It didnt look like it was just CP staff getting evacuated.
I don't think the height would have bothered me, as long as I didn't look down too much. Great pictures.
I rode the Millennium Force and i really didn't think it was that scarey but being stuck on the mfirst hill for a while would have scared me
