Miles to go before we ride...

My wife and I got into a discussion about how far we traveled this year just to ride coasters. This was the first year we were able to plan trips specifically to ride. So, I did a little totaling and I found out that we traveled approximately 4,650 miles this season. This was all driving miles I might add but does not include our home park, which would probably add another couple hundred miles.

So, the natural next step was to post this message to find out how far everyone else traveled this past season just to satisfy your coasting need. How about leaving out your home park but include any air miles and those traffic-packed drives to the airport.

I'm sure Legendary will have enough miles for a round-trip to the sun!

Hmmm... let's see.

SoCal to Cincinatti, about 2200 miles each way, flying. So about 4400 miles flying. I had to change planes in Atlanta, but I won't count that in the total.

Once in the midwest, I put almost 1800 miles on the rental car.
Add another 1000, for the drive up and back to the Bay Area, in a rented 30 foot motorhome. That was fun!
2 round trips to SFMM @ 150 miles each.
At least 10 trips to KBF, 30 miles round trip each
Add another 180 for a trip to Belmont Giant dipper.
Add another 80 to Scandia
Add 280 each way to Las Vegas (gambling was the prime destination, but I did the coasters too)

Flying... 4400
Driving.. 4220
Total.... 8620 miles

Not breaking any records, but more traveling than I have ever done, for coasters.

The longest single day drive was from Ft. Wayne In. to MA. About 5 hours each way, on the same day. CP from Ft. Wayne was slightly less, but i stayed at the park for over 9 hours. Really long day. I actually enjoyed driving the long distances, made the coasters more of a reward.

So you want a coaster in your backyard? I hope you have a big backyard.
My rental car coaster miles went well over the 10,000 mark this year. Thank god for unlimited mileage.

The best was the car in St. Louis they gave me with only 22 miles on it. I drove it all the way to Albany, NY and back with criss-crossing stops hither and yon. The St. Louis Agent nearly fainted when I noted the 8 day mileage.

Anyway... it's an obsession, what can I say?

This year was definitely the most we have ever traveled. We put just over 7800 miles on our car. A big chunk (over 2000 miles) of that came from driving from Columbus to Orlando and back.

On Memorial Day weekend we put at least 2500 on driving to Richmond,VA, Kentucky Kingdom, PKI,Holiday World, and Camden.
We drove to Kennywood twice 275 miles one way.
SFO, CP, Wyandot, PKI, Kennywood, Ildewild, Blands Park on another trip that was probably close to 2000 miles too
Dorney 3 times 67 1 way
Hershey about 10 times 57 1 way
Knoebels at least 10 time 12 miles one way
PKD & BGW twice round trip 800 miles
Coney Island NYC about 150 one way
Lake Compounce, Quassy, SFNE, Great Escape about another 800 miles
SFGadv about 125 one way

That come out to about 7190 miles at about 30 mpg about $1.50 a gallon (my area) thats about $358.50 just getting to the parks
