Michigan's Adventure water park expansion cancelled, paper blames local officials

Posted | Contributed by supermandl

A newspaper editorial says that fighting among township and county officials ultimately killed Cedar Fair's water park expansion project because of fighting among township and county officials over control of the water system. The project may have resulted in a grant for improvements of the system.

Read the editorial from The Muskegon Chronicle.

Can't we all just get along.
I wonder if CF has cancelled the order from ProSlide altogether, plan to put the slide in storage, or...

(evil grin begins to spread)

...nah.

If they dropped it in a sister park at the last minute, it would almost certainly be OoF.

They could modify/expand their plans on Wildwater Kingdom at Geauga Lake and plop it in there.
dannerman: GL already has a Tornado slide in their plans for Wildwater Kingdom, if it were to go to another park it would have to be a park other then GL&WWK.*** This post was edited by XFlight 1/11/2005 12:32:32 PM ***
They could always put in 2, combine the support structures so there's one stairway, and then break off into 2 lines at the last minute. It'd help with line control on the busy busy days... especially since it'll be brand new and draw a crowd :)
It's not the slide that was cancelled, it's the plans for the hotel/campground that are going away... the article that the editorial is in response to is here.

Well that article is certainly a lot more optimistic! It seems as though the letter by CF was largely a political move to stop the fighting and get results.
Toons is right. The linked headline does say imply the waterpark expanision was nixed, but this report clarifies it too.

But the water extension was approved last week?????? Go figure

I believe when they are saying "water park" they are talking about the park's plans in general. I don't think it will affect Funnel of Fear...
Click the link I provided and read the last two paragraphs.
The Funnel is going up, the campground isn't happening.

Yes they are still getting Funnel of Fear but are losing the Campground and Hotel. They needed the sewer/water system to house everyone's crap, literally. The park currently has filtration pools in the northeast corner of the park and when it rains boy can you smell it. This is a major set back for the home to the great Shivering Timbers, but lets not let it ruin our hopes for future park expansions.
DANG YOU PLAYA! I thought that OOF might be getting a new toy after all for next season. ;) Why couldn't THAT have been cancelled as well.

Sorry MiA fans for being selfish, but you would have been the same way if it was happening to us.
