Michigan's Adventure announces Grand Rapids

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Michigan's Adventure will celebrate its 50th anniversary with the addition of Grand Rapids, an Intamin river rapids ride, for 2006. The ride is part of a $6 million capital improvement plan. The park will also open a 50's-style Coasters restaurant.

wow...what a surprise!! A raft ride by Adventure Falls and Coasters by Be Bop. Who would have ever guessed?

...despite the fact that Grand Rapids is a metropolitan area of 770,000 peeps. More than Cincinnati & Buffalo combined as well as the 2nd most populated city in the state of Michigan.

Huh? Where are you getting your figures?

According to the 2000 census, the metropolitan area for Grand Rapids-Muskegon-Holland is just over one million people.

The metropolitan area for Buffalo-Niagra Falls is 1.1 million people.

The metropolitan area for Cincinnati is nearly two million people.

Although Grand Rapids is only the 47th largest metropolitan area in the country, I doubt that anyone is going to have any trouble understanding the name of this ride.

But I thought Cedar Fair would never deal with Intamin again! What do the nay sayers have to say now I wonder?

They have to say that a rapids ride is mature enough and old enough that it just works.
I though they were naming it after Grand Rapids OH.
Intamin is great at water rides.. it's the [larger] coasters that can be a problem.

I live in Grand Rapids, and, although I think the name of the ride and the theme is a good idea. I am not at all happy that they are putting in another water ride. The park already has more water rides than it needs.

I wish they would invest in some thrill rides. I think the five million they are investing in this new attraction could have easily bought them at least 3 decent thrill rides. Typical park rides like a monster, or an enterprise would be welcome. There are also some decent inverted rides, and, spin and puke rides that I would enjoy more than another rapids ride.

I am happy that they are building a sit down establishment. But, if it is anything like coasters at Cedar Point. Expect to wait for a table.

I guess they are going to do what they want. Oh well.

Oh, and Grand rapids does have close to 1,000,000 people if you include the surrounding metro area. The city itself, has about 450,000.

I think that RllrCstrDude187 ment was more on the lines of the midwest. Grand Rapids is not a small town but it really is not that well known outside of the midwest, and even then little is known about it. I have lived in Grand Rapids my entire life and it really is not the well known of a city oustide of that part of the country.
Awesome!!!! I Love the name. Coasters is a much needed place that's going to be very nice in the hot summer sun (Air Conditioning).
