MGM, Universal, and IOA

Associated parks:
None

I went to Florida from December 31 to January 3 with my 4 cousins and our parents. It was my first time in Florida ever. We ende up visiting MGM Studios, Universal Studios, and IOA.

December 31-MGM Studios: We arrived at the park around 9:00 a little after opening. Our first order of business was to head to the Rock N Roller Coaster. The wait time was around 40 minutes. The rides was pretty good and the theming was great except for the little opening introduction in the recording studio which i thought was a little cheesy. Anyways it was a mediocore ride except for the great launch. We ended up riding it 3 times because we got fast passes for it aound 12:00 so we came back around 5:00 and got in the regular line and waited 45 minutes to ride it then used our fast passes around 6:00. We did have another set of fast passes but we gave them away to some cool Penn State guys in line ahead of us. That was our last ride of the day and we did about every attraction there was in the park and it started to rain. It being New Years Eve everybody was crazy and it very crowded. I heard they had to shut down most of the disney parks due to them being full. So around 7:00 we left because we had to get up early the next day for Universal Studios.

January 1- Universal Studios: We arrived at Universal to exchange our tickets for a 2 day hopper pass. We went into the park a little after opening around 9:30. There was hardly any crowds early but later in the day there was a very nice crowd. We did twister, earthquake, jaws, MIB, Back to the future, and my favorite Terminator. We also took in some shows as well. By 6:00 we had done almost everything. My cousins left and my parents wanted to stay for the fireworks because they didn't hold them the night before due to the rain. My brother and I decided to check out Islands of Adventure and ride Hulk. We just couldn't wait untill the following day around 6:00. The park ended up closing at 8:00. We stood in line to go into the park and it was a very long line to get in. The lady in front of us was saying that it is never like that and it's usually a desilet land. It was very crowded that night. We decided to go on HULK and the wasit was around 45 minutes. I would have to say this was the greatest ride I ever rode. The launch , speed, and inversions were great. After that we wanted to do dueling dragons but for some reason the Lost Continent was blocked off by the Jurassic Park area so we decided to call it a night because we were heading there in the moring.

January 2-IOA: We arrived at the park around 9:30 and did HULK again. The wait was around 40 minutes but the line moved quick. What another great ride on it but I thought riding it at night was better. After that we did Dr Doom's FearFall. The wait was 25 minutes and it was fun. I flew off my seat at the very top on the way back down. After that we headed over to Dueling Dragons and did both fire and ice. I would have to say i like ice a little better for some strange reason but they were both excellent. I think it was when i was on ice we entered the loop at the same time but on fire we didn't. The wait was around 20 minutes for each. The crowds we out of this world. It was so crowded. The HULK got up to 75 minutes at one point and Dueling Dragons was 60 minutes. Spiderman was up to 2 hours one time. When the wait for Spiderman was 90 minutes we decided to get in line because we really wanted to do it. The wait really didn't seem that long. It was really about an hour wait. It was a fantastic ride. I liked it better than all of the 3D rides at Universal. It was awesome!! After Spiderman we went to The Hulk for our last ride around 6:30. The wait was the usual 45 minutes. It was a great ride to end the day and vacation with. I would have to say Islands of Adventure is one of the top parks i visited ever. The theming, rides, food were great.

Did you ride Tower of Terror at MGM? I hate to tell you but IOA has Universal Express like fastpass, and single rider lines, where even if your in a group you can still get a short wait.

yea we wanted to the express pass but they ran out for the hulk and spiderman. I didn't know about the single rider lines how short could waits be??
On Monday the single rider lines alowed me to get on spiderman in 10 min when the reqular line was 45 and on MiB I was able to ride twice in 15 min. when the regular line was 60. I did notice that when i walked by Spiderman in the afternoon that the single rider line was closed and the wait was 2hrs. the park was so crowded by 3:00 on Monday that I returned to my Hotel.

Whats life if you never get to the Po!nt?

IOA seems to "sell out" their express passes pretty early on the big rides (Hulk, Spiderman, etc.) The single rider lines are great and can save you a ton of time.

If you can spare the extra dough to stay at one of Universal's hotels, your room key is an all day, unlimited express pass...
