Mesh on the Lifts of inverted coasters

Whats up with the mesh on the lift of some B&M inverts? The best part about an invert is the lift hill not having a bottom. After the lift, I don't really notice that my feet are dangling, so really whats the point?

The whole point of a  invert is so you feel like there is a lack of car around you..The lack of a floor is what makes the ride not a gimmick, so why add one on the lift? What do you guys think

It is there to keep stuff from falling onto the people below.  they also need a way to get people off the ride if it stops.

It just makes more sense. I look at an older ride like Raptor and I can see how a walk-down would be a serious pain, and not terribly safe at that.

Jeff's right about having riders get off in case of a problem with the lift.  I myself couldn't fly down, so I'm thankful for the floor.  As for the mesh, it not only prevents items from falling onto riders, but even more(?) importantly, it prevents stuff (birds, whatever) from falling onto the chain lift itself...

i like the floor being there, because then right when you disengage the lift the floor just dissapears and its a cool effect to have the floor go bye bye at 150+ feet in the air like on raptor ^_^

If you had to unload on the lift, you would not just jump down onto the mesh.... There is something called a lift unloading platform (LUP) that travels up and down the lift.

I'm aware of the unloading platform on Raptor, but it's just another point of failure, and it's no wonder they don't build the rides that way anymore. I assume it's gas powered, but what if it doesn't work? What if its anti-rollback breaks? What if someone on the left side loses their balance? There are just too many issues to deal with there when building the lift with two sets of stairs and the mesh in between makes more sense.

How is that when the chain is overhead?

Mesh can also been found on B&M floorless and hypertwisters (the ones that I've ridden, but I don't know about the others). The mesh is a good idea. On RB's lift, the queve line is some-what below the lift. What if something were to fall from the lift and hit someone? Not a pretty thought.

It's also good if a train gets stuck on the lift if the chain snaps. If a person were to slip on the stairs, the person wouldn't fall or get stuck between the lift. I would rather have a concussion then dying.

Another way that it's good is that workers have to check the lift hill every day. If the worker were to slip (I don't see how since I think they have a rope connected to a bar?) then the worker wouldn't fall or get stuck between the lift and the stairs.

Another great idea from B&M. :)

Jeff, I was thinking of the screen they put over the top of the chain.  Only now do I realize which mesh everyone else is talking about....I guess I should "catch up" before posting, LOL...

And I seriously doubt how can people walk down from Vekoma inverted's lifts when they stopped... (Vekoma inverteds has no mesh at all, you look down and it's all the way down to the ground)
Vekoma SLC'S have a car just like B&M'S.
The mesh on Raptor will not support a person.  It is for the safety of those below.  There should be steps on both sides of the lift.  B&M realized this and that's one reason why you have stairs on both sides of Mantis, a ride that would be munch safer to unload with 1 set of stairs, as we only use 1 side when we do walkdowns anyway.
When it comes to the Vekoma SLC's it would be impossible to do a walk down without a catwalk under the lift.On SFA's Mind Eraser for example the catwalk is on the left side of the lift which is useless in that situation because you can't reach it from the center of the lift.Unless you want to try and jump that far.

That would suck if any one of you got stuck on a Mind Eraser's lift hill. How would you get of the lift? Would fire fighters have to use a cherry picker?

I'm simply saying that with nothing below you, it makes the ride more exciting. Usually on lifts I am not nervous, but on inverts, it seems that much more nerveracking with a lack of anything- mesh or whatever below you- I love it.
