Media Day Good or Bad?

I might be going to SFGA on Wednesday which I am pretty sure is Media Day for EL Toro. I know if I go then I won't get on El Toro, but my idea is that no one will be at the park because everyone will be waiting for Thursday which is when El Toro opens. What do you think about that.... good or bad?

Good or bad would really depend on what your other options are.

I mean if I was going to visit the park once this year I would make sure to go when El Toro was open, then again, I have no idea how close you are or how often you visit, or what other days you could go.

I go around three times a year, and I live 1 hours and 50 minutes or so away. But turst me when I say,"I don't mind not riding El Toro."

I'd say you're overthinking it. No one is planning their visit (except for a handful of enthusiasts) based on the timing of Media Day and the opening of El Toro.

If it were me, I'd wait until Toro opened.

But why though? Ok, then how about Tuesday? You think that would be better? I just want to go to the park and have no lines, because the last 5 times I have been there I got on 3 rides in 9 hours. It sucks!
If doesnt matter much to you i say go. But if it was a hassle to get back or your not going back this year, i would wait until it was open.

My thoughts exactly. ET has nothing to do with the crowds @ the park on Wednesday. The GP isn't waiting in anticipation for ET's opening day. They are going to go whether its open or not. So to answer your question.......I wouldn't expect the crowds to be any lighter on the day before ET opens than they would be on any regular Wednesday.

If you really don't care about ET, I'd think going when it opens would be a better idea since people will want to ride it if they see it open and it'll take away from other lines.

Well that's not true. I guess if the opening date is not well known, then people won't base their trips off it. All I know is that SFoG was slammed on Goliath's opening day. And I'm certain it wasn't just a "handful of enthusiasts".

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
Many times, aren't media events done just prior to park opening? The example I'm thinking of is Skyhawk. They did it just before the opening if I heard right. And me being one of the people who was at the front gate while the whole Media thing happened, I can tell you, the front gates were totally packed to the rafters when we got there. So, in closing, the lines weren't any less for us just because it was media day.

But if people have been paying attention to the opening date, there might be a lot more people in the park that day.

That said, I went S:UF's opening day and didn't notice significant differences either way.

I should be getting an Email invitation to mediaday soon if it is this week and as soon as I do I will post it to let everyone know when it is. Unfortunately I will not be able to attend because I am very busy this week so I will have to wait for CC on Saturday to ride it.

Matt is exactly right. How are you going to feel if you go when it's media day and leaving the park knowing you did not ride El T? If you ride El T it is all that much different. It all depends on your Person*** Preference. If you go just to see El T then that might be your full expectation and you will be fulfilled. Do what you feel and your complete your needs brother from a different mother. Keep it cool rock star.

Media day isn't Wednesday. :0

Believe me, I really do know that it isn't Wednesday, and I've probably already said way too much.

BTW after attending the media days for the Voyage, and Kentucky Rumbler, and can say that media days are good.............Oh so good! *** Edited 6/10/2006 12:45:01 PM UTC by Coasterphan***

What do you mean? What was so great about Media Day Coasterphan? It seems like you have experience with awesome coasters on Media Day, so tell us.

And it also looks like you're (Phan) trying to snob us out.

I could be wrong, but I think Coasterphan went to those media days because of an invitation to them. Yes, media days are amazing if you get to ride the coaster that is being presented. It's interesting, though. I've attended my fair share of media days, but never one that happened on a day the rest of the park was open. Only on "off" days.

Six Flags typically invites regional ACE members to media day for a new ride. If you knew something big was opening up in your area and you're not a member, it would have been a good bet to join up.

I think you just defended my point when you said if the opening date is not well known.....well ET's isn't. Any "normal" opening day for a ride yeah it'll be mobbed.

Skyhawk's Media Day was the Thursday before the park even opened for the season.
