Mechanics wrestle with Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point

Posted | Contributed by supermandl34

Since the $25 million Top Thrill Dragster's May 4 opening at Cedar Point amusement park, it has been shut down several times to accommodate a fickle, prototypical hydraulic system required to launch the ride out of its berth. Consultants say the problems associated with a prototypical ride of this magnitude are to be expected.

back to experimental tech. Air at Alton Towers in England had over a month out of action last year because of the tilting mech. 4 years ago the holding brake on Oblivion kept going off early letting the train slam into the one in front for half a season and the computer on colossus (the 10 looping one) has a messed up computer and it seems that all these rides have something in common.

and i hve the theory.

all of these rides are made because of a dream.

the guys at Alton Towers did'nt go up to John Waldrey and go "we want a flying coaster" it was quite the reverse. stengel thought of the vertical loop in bed (in a dream!!!) they're all the same they are ideas not requirements and need refining

pay attention to england they have the same problems in our 4 theme parks as you have in your 5 million or whatever it is*** This post was edited by Decimator 8/17/2003 10:51:59 AM ***

Just returned from a weekend at CP. TTD was a great ride. While I would have to admit it was only operational about 65% of the time, there never was more than a contiguous hour of non-operation. Sometimes it would run and run and run. Other times, there would be strange delays between launches. But, it is a fabulous ride...and noone at the park seemed distressed by the wait. We waited 1.5 hours and I think we had one of the longest waits. (The wait for Millenium Force was sometimes even longer.)

So, let's keep perspective. I travelled ten hours to get there, and was not disappointed. It's not as bad as these posts would indicate.
