Mean Streak isn't mean anymore!

I rode Mean Streak just a few days ago, and I found it to be pretty rough. Even the straight aways bounced you around a bit. However, the only brakes I noticed were the mid course brakes and the trims on the first drop. I didn't see any other trims throughout the rest of the ride, and yes, I WAS looking for them. Even though I didn't see any other brakes, the ride was a little slow, but not as bad as I remember it. From what I understand, Cedar Point is planning to do something to Mean Streak. I guess that they told ACE members at some coaster event that Blue Streak had been worked on and it was now Mean Streak's turn. Maybe someone like Jeff can confirm this?

I think it's called "Mean Streak" because Cedar Point is MEAN for tricking us with such a lovely looking, yet poorly designed coaster. ;)

you think 29 is old? Where do you go to school lil boy? Probably nowhere if you think 29 is old and you can't spell. :P

Excuse me for misspelling one word, what a horrible, uneducated individual I am! This "lil boy" is a junior at Drexel University pursuing a bachelors degree in interior architecture. After I leave Drexel in one year I will be attending Tulane University to get my masters degree in architecture. What about you, what school do you go to? Thanx for your time and please come again. -Dante

Talk about being a little late ...

All my female friends hate MS cause it makes their chest hurt. Being a guy I can't relate exactly.

I got slapped last time I was there for warning the two girls I was with (one who definitely needed the warning). She took it back though after the ride =)

DorneyDante uses all caps in a post that belittles "old" people who complain about Mean Streak's roughness and then gets all hyped up because he's called a "lil boy". I love it.

Well, I'm OLD and never considered Mean Streak to be especially rough until I rode Shivering Timbers. I thought all woodies were "rough" and you just have to know how to ride them. I've heard more youngsters (under 30) complain about MS being rough, even now. And believe me, MS is tame compared to her younger days.

I didn't see any roughness about Mean Streak when I went on it 6 times in a 2 day period at different times each day. It was fast and pretty smooth. All the stuff I had read about it on other coaster sites made me think that riding it would be equal to what a bottle of iced tea feels like when you shake it. However, that was not the case. If you want a rough ride that will give you bruises, try the Wildcat at Hershey. Sure, being called Wildcat might mean that it is a wild ride but it can get a little too wild. If you ask me, the one coaster at CP that gives you a lot of banging and crap is the Corkscrew, and that is a steel coaster too. Steel coasters are generally smoother. I never feel pain after riding a RC but Corkscrew gave me pain all over. I only rode that twice and I rode MS 6 times. I love the Comet at Hershey Park and I love Lightening Racer but so far, MS has to be my favorite. Bottom line, like any coaster, Mean Streak may have its ups and downs but it all depends on when you ride it I guess.

Getting all hyped up? hardly. The fact that i responded to this post a month later shows my interest. I am just merely defending myself after someone calls me uneduacted. As you can see, I am hardly that.

Can't we all just get along? We all have something in common, the fact that we like roller coasters. Why don't we just stick to that?
Like I said in my TR that I posted earlyer, I think it has to do with the trains. I rode the green train and it seemed smooth (for a woodie). But, on the second ride, we got the gold train and it killed. It was so rough that I couldn't keep my hands up, I actully had to hold on. It was kind'a odd to watch sparks fly out of the wheels from the front car.

When it's good, it's very good.
When it's bad, it's wicked.

I found Mean Streak to be very rough with head banging but besides that it is smooth.

In 4 Days My 100th Coaster will be HyperSonic XLC

Hmm... funny. At one point, ACE selected Mean Streak to be on TV.

I guess things change.

How can a roller coaster have head banging when it doesn't have over the should restraints? Mean Streak is a wooden roller coaster, it has lap bars. I dont understand how it could have head banging.

If you lean forward during the ride and don't let your back touch the seat back during the ride, the ride is fine. I think that the true enthusiasts were the people at CoasterMania that stayed on MS in the pitch black of night to ride it over during the re-rides. There looked like some guys in their 60's and 70's riding...and they could take it...

I think that the people that go to CP think that all coasters are meant to be smooth as glass. You go to PKI and nobody complains about the roughness of the rides because they all can throw you around a bit. MS isn't any more rough than The Beast.

It's true that it would be nice to see MS back to its original furocious self, but the ride has a structural problem, and not just the track. A reprofiling would be a major undertaking, and what's to say that the maintenance costs on the ride would go down? There would be several million dollars down the drain, added to the already outrageous maintenance costs.
