Mean Streak

I was at CP for opening day yesterday (6th), and I was suprized. Mean Streak wasn't that rough and it had some air time (no I wasn't smoking anything LoL). They could have done a little more TLC to it as well. The lift hill was also faster (also on Magnum), but there were still trims on the first drop.

thats good news. if they do this every couple of years they could rebuild it into an excellant coaster. it will always get attentions from newcomers because of its apearance, so if i were cf, i would keep upgrading it untill it becomes an great woodie

Do they still have that damn trim brake on the first drop? That is what kills the ride for me now. MS was my favorite coaster the first 2 years of its existence. Unfortunately it has not aged well. If they got rid of the first trim brake though I think it would still be a decent coaster.
Sorry CPTwister, the trim brake on the first drop is still there.

Thank you for riding America's Roller Coast
The Trim brakes were in full affect, I was there on sunday also. The Mean Streak is like this every season, its good in the beginning, then wear and tear takes it toll, so sad for such a beautiful work of coaster art =(

It is one of the most beautiful works of coaster art. I especially like the track over the lift hill. Too bad it's one of the ugliest rides I've ridden. It lives up to it's name but continues it's bad reputation.

This may sound crazy, perhaps even blasphemous, but what if they replaced the heavy PTC trains with lighter Morgan trains. There should be less stress on the track which would reduce or eliminate the need for trims. They would have to do a good rehab first since a bumpy track is going to be a lot rougher in the light, unpadded Morgans.

Reaching for my hundredth coaster in 2001.
It's obvious that any wooden coaster that is huge is going to be rough... too rough...MS, Hercules, SOB, Rattler, Texas Giant. Something needs to be done to the track, cars or both to make them a little smoother.

Mean Streak always runs good on opening weekend. Why? The first coat of lube is still on the rails. Then it rains sometime soon after and it's the same old MS that we all know. Guess what happened last night here along the North coast of OH??? :)

I don't think height has as much to do with it as plainly taking care of the coaster. SOB and The Beast have two of the biggest drops, but IMO are smoother than many of the other big woodies I've been on(Mean Streak, Hercules,..). Severe braking and poor maintenance can really hurt.

SOB was as smooth as most steel coaster I have been on...at least as of 4-21-01.

I wish they would take off that trim on the lift.:(

No Bad Coasters, Just Some Better Than Others.
I doubt SOB will stay smooth. Wood coasters warp so easily.
What is the point of having brakes after the first drop?

Mean Streak is a great wooden coaster. Koaster King, what do you have against it? Huh!? "It's ugly," and you point is?

"Riding High"

I guess the point of having brakes on the first drop is to slow the ride down, so it isn't as rough. The GP, especially at CP, expect everything to be perfect, so the make up crazy stories (I've heard em) about snapping their necks and hurting their backs on Mean Streak. CP must respond. I would love to take a few people for a ride on SOB or the old Crystal Beach Cyclone and watch how their opinions would change. Mean Streak was an OK ride, now it blows.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
Right on CP Twister. For me MS will always suck until those first drop brakes are gone. Maybe that's not doing it justice, but I will always be disappointed because it could have been so much better. I think one of CP's best moves would be to burn MS or scrap the wood from it and put in a good CCI. Who cares about the roughness...just get something with speed and airtime that's exciting.

and this is why cci makes smaller coasters, large woodies ust cant hold up to the beating

Not physically ugly. I meant it gives an ugly(bad) ride. Why would I be prejudice against ugly coasters? LOL! Especially when you read the sentense before it. I wasn't contradicting myself.

And Craig. How was the Crystal Beach Cyclone? You seem to know how it rides. And comparing that to SOB(not a rough coaster at all).
