"Marvelous" and "Almost" steps?

I've seen "Marvelous" steps at the arcade before, specifically Extreme machines in Oni/Nonstop modes. But how is that, I suppose mathmatically, figured out? Is it exactly with the beat of the music?

Also, I dropped by Media Play today to search for some after-Christmas specials and surprisingly on their playable PS2 with the demo disc, they had a DDRMAX2 demo, sans a dance mat. Naturally I tried it with the controller, and I noticed it had "Almost" steps. I wasn't paying attention too much, but are they between "Boo" and "Miss"?

Tommy P.

"Almost" steps are between "Good" and "Boo" on my European versions of the game, and I have never seen any "Miss" steps on my game - I guess Dancing Stage and Dance Dance Revolution have a few differences.

Semantically, "Marvellous" steps can't really come above "Perfect" steps by definition. Some of the dance variations are called "Marvellous", but that is at the initial song selection stage.

You are indeed correct, Millennium. Marvelous steps are only on the EXTREME mix of DDR and are only found on Oni/Nonstop Courses. They have a smaller window than Perfect does, so yeah basically you have to PRECISELY on beat.

You were almost right, Rob. In the earlier mixes of DDR (specifically USA, 3rd mix, and below) the ratings were actually named. I think 4fters were named Marvelous. I'm not sure on that one, though.

And as far as Almost steps, i think Rob handled that one :) *** Edited 12/27/2003 5:08:56 PM UTC by Kel***
