Martin's fantasy islands wildcat

Without going over to RCDC, I assume that there are no XC3000 coasters in the states? I wonder what those are like?

As for that $4 million pricetag, I'm sure that includes a lot of site preparation and other things associated with a major, permanent coaster installation. I'm sure a portable version would cost less... I just wonder how much less?

Hmmm...so instead of licensing the design, they just decided to build their own? I don't understand how so many different manufacturers can build almost identical rides. It's like patents don't apply to the world of amusement rides. You come up with a great ride and a couple of years later, several other manufacturers are building the same thing.

Doesn't seem like anything new. Years ago, Pinfari made Zyklons and SDC made Galaxies... to this day I still can't tell the difference between the two. Unless the car bodies are different?

...and how many diff manufacturers were building *Windstorm-ish* coasters? ;)

I love those things too...lots of talk about all these excellent compact steelies lately...must almost be time for the steel coaster poll...:)

I think SDC designed the Windstorm to replace the Galaxy. Then SDC turned into another company. I think. Then Zamperla (of all companies) started marketing the Windstorms.

Of course, I could be wrong, but I think that's how the story goes.

Rob, apparently Intamin *claims* that the "Windstorm in a box" at SFoT isn't really a Windstorm....there's subtle differences, so they say, and it's not REALLY a Windstorm.

REAL subtle differences, if you asked me...;)

Like color, Gator? lol.

Couldn't tell color since it was dark in there Moosh....but Curly told me that Intamin was QUITE clear in making the distinction....ROFL!

I really LOVE Windstorms, and that one in particular (Runaway Mine Train by name, LOL) since it had great theming around the ride...but, in all honesty, I call it "a Windstorm".

I thought that was an original design, not some clone-in-a-box. Maybe that's why it's one of the few Intamin rides that operates on a regular basis?

I think you mean Premier Rides. When I wrote in an article for RollerCoaster! Magazine that Runaway Mountain was a Windstorm sold by Premier, Jim Seay sent us a letter asking us to print a correction. He said that Premier had re-engineered the ride.

As far as the history of the Windstorm, when SDC disbanded, some of the employees formed S&MC and some went to Zamperla, so both companies made the same ride. Premier used to work with S&MC (they built the trains for Flight of Fear), so I guess they got the Windstorm design from them, or he bought it from Werner Stengel, who did the original Windstorm design.

What did Intamin have to do with that? I thought Premier got the contract, S&MC was subbed a lot of the track work and Gerstlauer did the trains. No?

Opps, good catch! Thanks...:)

I'm sure if I saw RMT with the lights *on*, I might be able to see some (minor) changes...but as far as ride experience, I'd call it *clone enough*...;)

edit: Since Adam came in (late, as usual), yes, Premier....my bad....AGAIN! ;)

Did S&MC build the trains for Premier's High Roller in Vegas? I was wondering since they looked a lot like Windstorm trains (see part I of my Vegas trip report).

Rob's catching on to this *shameless self-promotion* idea pretty quick, huh? ;)

Jeff-

Actually Gerstlauer did the FOF trains, I think S&MC did track fab.

Rob, yes.

Crap... I forgot to include a link to my "donations" site!
Regarding the Maurer-Sohne SC 3000, the best example for them are the Winjas at Phantasialand in germany.

They got elevator lifts, wild mouse turns, huge helix and the best... various tracks effects. Like one of them features a track that... seesaws with the car on it!

**THREAD RESSURECTION**

I just contributed the crazy mouse into the directory since it isn't listed, however I don't know how to contact in regards to the wildcat now being defunct...
