Markey reintroduces ride safety act while most states and parks have standards in place

Posted Wednesday, June 4, 2003 8:59 AM | Contributed by Jeff

Rep. Ed Markey (D-Ma.) has again introduced his Ride Safety Act for approval by the house Energy and Commerce Committee. Introducing the bill annually since 1999, the bill has never made it out of committee.

Most states have their own safety and certification programs in place. Large parks like Busch Gardens Tampa, and other large Florida parks, have their own internal programs.

I'll bet he was just waiting for an amuesment park fatality before resubmitting this. Too bad for him the body count was low.

Godzillian, he's a liberal in Massachusetts. He'll be re-elected.

You know, that's a pretty wrong thing to say. It was resubmitted on May 22nd, before the incident on the Raven and pretty well after the one on Raging Bull. Plus, none of us like what Markey's trying to do but it is largely unrelated to either of those two events anyway.

He's no liberal. He's a just an opportunist playing to a liberal crowd.

we should all run a campaign in his home state to make sure that he does not get elected again, then when he looses tell him ACE and other coaster groups prevented his election, strap him on some tracks, and let a coaster train run over his sorry ass.
