Marine Land Drop Tower

Anyone know when MarineLand's droptower is set to open? The site doesn't have a date. Also, is it gonna be an S&S or an Intamin? And if its S&S, will it be a combo SpaceShot/TurboDrop? My wife is addicted to the S&S towers and this would be the closest one to us (currently its CP, 6 hours away). Thanks!

"You think you know me..."

According to certain "rumor sites", the park is having trouble getting the permits for the ride to open. This is open for speculation, but I can assure you that the ride wasn't close to being open when I visited Marineland in the middle of August. The tower was complete, but crews were in the middle of leveling the land around the towers. Paving was not completed, there wasn't a paved path to get up to the ride, there was no sign of a control booth, and ride vehicles were not on the property.

The ride is finished and was being tested as recent as about a week or so ago.

Unfortunately, the towers apparently aren't the same color as listed in the broschure... which is disappointing, since I was looking forward to a black/orange combo.

From what has been said by many people, it is indeed a permit problem that will delay the ride from opening until opening day of 2004. The exact same thing happened to Piledriver, a 200' drop tower by Zamperla that opened up in near-by Clifton Hill. So, it comes to no surprise, those damn Hosiers.

Anyway, it is indeed S&S, and I'm not sure... but it may be similar to Six Flags New England's triple tower... a shot/drop combo on all 3 towers, but that's just a guess. Since it's a full 300' like Cedar Point's... I'd actually say that 2 are drop, and 1 is a shot.

There are only 3 towers though, so I would think it is a combo program.

The towers can be seen from the American side of Niagara Falls. My grandparents went to the Falls this summer, and while looking through their pictures, I gazed right past them, right past the falls, and saw a tiny, itty bitty little S&S Tower in the backround.

My family realized I am crazy.

May the Schwarz be with you.

I was at the park yesterday the is open, all three towers have the combo program, so it shots you up in the air then bounces you around for a wild then brings you up to the top holds you for a couple of seconds then drops you. But they seem to have more rules, they wont let anyone ride it if they are wearing glasses not even if they are wearing the strap. Also they wont let you ride it if you have anything in your pockets. I don’t know what their problem is but they seem to be really strict on the ride it might just be some Canadian Law about rides. They have clamed the all kinds of stuff has been falling cell phones, money, hair clips, etc. But the ride still delivers that same feeling when you shot up and drop.

I've yet to ride a drop tower that allows riders with glasses, sandals, and phone/pagers that are clipped. Those rules don't sound so strict.
Everything in your pockets wallet, keys, money, and glasses with a strap must come off.
I will believe the Glasses statement (though I have ridden towers before and never was made to take off my glasses), but I kind of wonder about the accuracy of the "EVERYthing in your pockets."

Wallets and keys? Come on now.

"Yes... well... VICTORY IS MINE!"
So it's a combo, shot first, drop second? Wow does that sound backwards. I would think being dropped after being up 300' from the launch would kinda take some of the thrill out of it. I know the worst part for me is sitting up there (on Power Tower, etc) waiting for that fall...

How odd to respond to a post I started a year ago under an "alias" instead of my own name...

But then again, what do I know?

I ride S&S towers with my glasses on all the time...SFNE's and Dorney's and WoF's let me on, and iirc CP's required a strap.

That's how all the combo towers work. Shot first, bounce around, then up to the top for the drop. Think of how much longer each cycle would be they took you slowly up first, then brought you all the way back down for a shot. That seems backwards to me. Being dropped after a launch doesn't take any of the thrill out of it. You still sit up there for a moment or two waiting for the fall.

Not to totally jump off topic, but is Holiday World's S&S tower a combo?
Nope. Liberty Launch is a double shot.

Where are other double shots? I've been looking for one.

Its too bad the S&S @ Knotts is just a drop...and they don't even bounce you halfway up the tower anymore, its just like...drop, whoop a little bonce, and your done. These combos sound awesome...does anyone know why the S&S @ Knotts doesn't bounce halfway anymore?

As for the pockets and items things, for all the towers i've been on, they basically make you put loose articles to the side...anything else, they could care less.

Somehow... if you're wearing cargo shorts, I dont think they're going to pat you down & feel you to make sure you're not lying about "everything" in your pockets.

I've gotten away on X-Flight among many other strict coasters where-as they "require" all loose items like keys, wallets, candy, gernades... etc to be left behind on the station... but they never actually took a 2nd look to make sure you're doing that.

So, I'm sure the Canadian ride-ops on Sky Screamer are also not going to make sure every little thing in your cargo pockets are empty, especially if they come with a button, velcro, or zipper pocket.

As for the glasses thing... I rode Power Tower w/ the strap, worked fine. I even rode Power Tower w/out the strap (fell off before we got to the top), and they had no problem staying in place... so I dont know the big deal about that.

Why the short program at Knotts? Easy. It increases the rph.
