Many businesses confident Cedar Fair will improve Geauga Lake

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Geauga Lake's decline in attendance and loss this year had a measurable effect on surrounding businesses, but many feel that Cedar Fair will turn around its acquisition in the next few years.

Sounds like SFWoA was highly successful. I bet Six Flags is kicking themselves for selling! Same with Sea World.

Considering the time frame last spring, you have to give Cedar Fair a little slack. 2004 was a fluke and I think we'll see a good vision on Wednesday.

There were not 2 million at SFWOA in 2003. I don't care what the trades said. The Six Flags People Who Know(TM) said the final tally was under 1.5 million.
Funny, Dick Kinzel himself said SFWOA drew 1.8 million.
Listen for yourself. (31:40-31:50 into the CF conference call)

Well, you can take it from him or you can take it from the internal people at Six Flags that would know. The park was the laughing stock of the chain.
Hi just thought that id put my two cents in. I think that what ever they do to the park is going to be a major improvement. This park definitely needs a shot in the arm. I just think that this announcement is too big too miss. I think that whether it be something that goes to the side of water slides or whatever, that will help them still, because everytime I drove past during the summer it seems to be the popular area. If they were to put in a coaster, I think it may be too soon. I really think that they just need to focus on what they couldn't get done this year, and then plan for the next year. I love this park, I grew up there and they were never to spectacular. I agree to some point with midwave, they had a family atmostsphere. I think now most people expect them to become another cedar point. Money is tight in the Cedar Fair kingdom, from what I hear, with a little over 37 million left, and Hydra being built in Dorney and them putting in a coaster at Knotts. They can afford something but nothing THAT spectacular. So I just hope that they manage their budget wisely and really think or should I say lean toward something that can improve the park and not put a hole in their wallets. Hey but remember if you are a true fan of rides, this meaning midwave, Geauga Lake isn't that bad. The Villain is also a good ride, and I also like a traditional ride on the Big Dipper, so there isnt a great roller coaster, but there are fun ones just open you eyes a bit. I just hope that tomorrow brings great news and it gives me another reason to but a combo pass in the offseason.

Have Fun and Ride Safe

MagnumBarrel...I'm a big fan of family rides and waterparks...and Gemini, I guess I can eat my own words...I miss the animals SO MUCH, but I will admit what GL just announced just made me VERY HAPPY :)

Thank You Mr. Bill Spehn for gaining my trust again.

I may just have to check it out this summer.

Only issue I have is that ThrillerBees and Starfish are NOT NEW, and ridden all the time by us in 2003....ThrillerBees is awesome family ride!

midwave:

From what I read on their press release, they didn't say the ThrillerBees or Starfish were new attractions. It stated the rides didn't run this past season due to their location on the south side of the park and will be relocated.

thanks Chitown....i was viewing their website, and they put a NEW sign next to the rides images...then as you read into the website, they say what you just said :)
