Mantis stuck

I could be wrong, however that seems to be in my mind for some reason. Perhaps someone can confirm or deny?

Dorney Park Visits in 2003: 4

When I went early last year the trim was on. When I went two weeks ago the trim was off.

Take that for what it's worth.

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.

The trim is still used, but they have toned it down quite a bit even since last year... you can barely feel it now.
I doubt the trim is being used. I neither heard nor felt it. I even watched the ride after I got off and did not see it.

The trim was not in use the two times that I visited this year. Don't forget how bad the winter was this year. They will get the bugs worked out.

How did they get the train out between the first drop and the loop?

The remove the upstops from the trains (bottom wheels) and lift each car off by crane.

I went last weekend, and the trims were not being used. I could notice that it went through the vertical loop faster than it did last year.
When most people see a coaster stopped on the ride course, people automatically assume that they are stuck. That's not necessarily true. But in this case, yes the ride was stuck. I just like to laugh at all the people who see a ride stopped and automatically assume that it's stuck.

But how do they get the crane over to that area? If I can remember correctly, the lift and first drop, and part of the loop is over water.

It was trimmed alot last year, you could hear the hiss for quite a distance...I'm not sure about this year though. I don't think it was being trimmed opening day, but I can't say for sure so don't quote me. Although Magnum defo. was trimmed...but don't get me started on that.
jkpark, there is only about 10-15 feet of water on the midway side of the drop, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem reaching it.

All I've heard about so far this year are the constant break downs with TTD (which is expected), rollbacks with TTD, constant breakdowns with MF, breakdowns with Raptor, and now this.. I've followed the park for years and I've never heard of these kinds of problems happening so frequently in the opening weeks.

Where are you hearing these from?

Rides, like all other equipment, breakdown. TTD is assumed to have rollbacks. There is even a sign in the queue to let the GP know.

Actually they did not just remove the upstops and lift the trains when it rolled back at the first loop. They removed a section of track and removed them that way. There is no easy way to get people under there to remove upstops.

beeman95, he's probabaly hearing it from people who have visited the park. I was there on the 10th and 11th. I didn't get there till about 6:40p.m. on saturday so I ended up spending all my time in the TTD line, but Wicked Twister, MF, and Magnum were all closed I know for sure. The next day TTD opened at 11:50a.m. or thereabouts. TTD does have a sign in the queue that mentions the rollbacks, but it's not supposed to do them for 3 straight hours like it did the two days I was there.

Just for the record Wildcat, Cocksrew, TTD, Wicked Twister, and Mantis were the only coasters operating. Thats not even half of them! Talk about a waste of time. Everyone talks like CP is the greatest park and has no faults, well it's far from it. This has also been the second year in a row we've stayed at one of the onsite hotels for the early entry privledge to have no rides open in the morning! Oh yea, Mantis's trims were on Sunday.

Well, everyone I hate to say it but it was not maintance issues the 10 and 11th it was the wind, all the rides mentioned can not operate over 30 mph. Twister is launched, so is TTD, Corkscrew, Iron Butterfly I mean Dragon, and Wildcat are not tall enogh to matter and generally Mantis is shielded by trees but it has roll backed in the past .

All of October last year and the two times I have been on Mantis this year the trim has been off completely. I stood at the hill and listned and there was definately no air pressure being used.

I believe earlier this year during employee training both Mantis and Raptor had rollbacks or vallied as it is called by some, becuse of moderate winds, cold bushings, and low weight.

MF vallied last year on the island, but this was early in the morning, and it was that damn yellow train.

If Mantis was stuck right before the midcourse couldn't they just hook a come-along, or a winch to the front of the train and pull it to the midcourse. Afterall a train should be able to make it to the final brakes from the midcourse even from a standstill.

To me it seems a winch would be a lot cheaper and easier than removing a piece of track, removing all the cars one at a time and replacing them back on the transfer track.

According to GTTP (and whoever did that write-up, am I wrong in assuming it was possibly Jeff?) Mantis hasn't used the trims since 2001 when the ride went to two trains. At the very least I think that may be where I read that in the first place.

Yeah, I wrote that, but it isn't entirely true. I have seen them in use, but rarely. So far this year I've yet to see them used.

Regarding Rob's comment about cutting out track, I've heard that many times but I refuse to believe it. It's totally illogical. Maybe it happened, but I don't buy it, and I saw no evidence that it did afterward.

May 10 and 11 were exceptionally windy days. I can't remember any days in recent memory that we've had that kind of sustained wind in this area. My house has never made the noises it made that weekend.

So IOArules, you can complain and cry about it all you want, those were circumstances well out of the park's control.

I've heard all of these things from people on this website. I've gotten on here every day since the park opened and most of the posts have been about all the breakdowns at CP. I know TTD will breakdown and I know there is a sign about rollbacks. I also understand that machines aren't perfect. It just seems that the coasters are breaking down more frequently so far, that's all. I also have experienced the wind problems. That is a real bummer, especially in October when the winds are freezing.

They use a cable to pull the train either up the hill it stalled after or over the hill it didn't make, whichever is saferand builds more momentum. If people were on it when it stalled they are evacuated. There is no way the park removes track or parts of the train.

Cherry pickers are also used to pull trains to where the park needs them

When White Lightning used to stall I heard it would take 20 minutes before it would stop rolling back and forth .

I was working on the Gold Rusher at Carowinds one morning when it vallied before opening. A cable and pulley was used to pull it out of the final tunnel and into the station
