Brunaud Moïse, who is black, said his skin colour is the real reason two La Ronde security guards approached him on Aug. 6 - near the end of his three-hour visit in the park - and told him to either turn his Bob Marley T-shirt inside out or leave. The T-shirt shows the head of the late Jamaican singing icon, famous for his message of peace and for his personal marijuana use, with hair made of pot leaves.

Yeah, those fans are crazy. :) Truth be told though, I've never gotten into it. I'm not opposed to it, just never really bothered. Drinking gets expensive enough as it is.
And I never said I instantly associated it, I just know they're tied together. I didn't even associate the activity of smoking, just the leaves that are always adorning Marley/Jamaica stuff.
I'm surprised he was given the option to turn the shirt inside out. At Great Adventure they are very clear that if they deem a shirt offensive you can't turn it inside out. I guess it proabaly isn't enforced along with most of the guest code of conduct.
That's too bad... Bob Marley was a great guy (well, didn't know him personally :)
I think of his music when I see or hear of him, not pot. Honestly, I find it very strange that people can walk around with booze (beer, etc.) shirts, hats, blah blah (and buy booze at the parks) but not Cannabis leaves. As a recovering addict, alcohol is easily one of the most (probably the most) dangerous drugs I did. It's all ok for other, what I'm saying is, it's ironic how harmless 'pot' is; but for the fact that it's legallly Illegal.

Oh, definitely. The hypocrisy over which drugs are acceptable, legal and readily available vs which drugs aren't is about as random and silly as it gets.
If you read up on the logic/history behind a lot of the laws, it's really crazy stuff.
I don't know about that. I mean, alcohol was banned at the constitutional level at one point, so it all depends on your point of view.

I'm not sure I follow.
Seems that's an argument for the willy-nilliness of it all.
I think I'll have to rock my Oxy-Contin shirt when I visit.
4. Offer him a free "LaRonde" t-shirt to wear for the day
A loaner? Or do they get to keep it after sweating in it all day? If the latter, I'll eschew the Oxy-Contin for Bob so I can get my free shirt and locker. :)
Anyway, it's a pretty ridiculous dress code. Then again, I'm from California.
Does this story strike anyone else as being especially odd coming out of Montreal? The only other city I've ever been to where I saw/smelled so much casual pot smoking on the streets was Amsterdam. I read this story as "we'll look the other way if you smoke it but god help you if you put it on your T-shirt." Very odd.
I also find it doubly ironic since my one Kennywood visit earlier this year involved a late afternoon ride on the Phantom in which we spent the majority of the line behind a guy wearing a tie-dyed shirt that featured two skeletons 69'ing each other... and his (wait for it) 3rd grade daughter. I got a good "you screwy redneck" chuckle out of it but I'm sort of tough to offend. I wonder if anyone ever asked him to take it off or turn it inside out? Hm.

And infuriating. Two words: Harry Anslinger.

Turns out even Facebook frowns on pot leaf imagery.
Maybe the dude at La Ronde should have used the 'political speech' angle instead of the race card?
