Malaysia talking to Disney about new theme park

Malaysia hopes to persuade Walt Disney to build a theme park in southern Johor state as it competes for tourists with neighbouring Singapore, which unveiled a large casino project last week. Effendi Norwawi, the economic planning minister, said the government had been discussing the project with the US leisure and entertainment group and Oriental Land, the Japanese operator of Tokyo Disneyland.

There's now an update on Yahoo Finance where Disney denies having any conversations with Malaysia about a new park. Apparently, the government's talks were with Oriental Land Co. about developing the site, but not specifically as a Disney park. In the updated release, both Disney and Oriental Land Co. emphasize that OL Co. is just a licensee of the Disney brand in Japan, and do not have auhority to discuss expanding Disney parks beyond their current interest in Japan.
