Making a bad day better?

Mamoosh's avatar
The thread about coasters that make you laugh got me thinking about the coasters that will, at least temporarily, melt away all my problems and turn a bad day into a good day.  Like a "mental margarita" there's nothing better than a ride on Ghostrider to make my bad day melt away.  I've had the same experience on Coney's Cyclone and SFWoA's Big Dipper.

So...when you've had a bad day, what's the one coaster that makes all your troubles a thing of the past?

Conneaut Blue Streak. I thought it would be a boring ride and the park would not be much fun. I loved it and enjoyed the rest of the park because of the Streak :)

When im down, after i ride a coaster, im fine. Coasters REALLY do make you forget about your probs. I think it works the best on these coasters...

Raptor, BKF, Villain, ROAR, and SROS. Those are the ones i can think of now...

My Timbers, definitely. It's nearby so I can easily run out for a lap or two whenever. Even now, I can go for a spin on my computer and everything is better.

On September 30th after a really crappy day at work(3 people called in sick on the day I was in charge)I went to Oaks Park.I purchased enough tickets for several rides on the Looping Thunder coaster. After a few rides,my attitude was much improved. This was also my last coaster ride of the season.
See how much money people would save if the psychiatrist instead of saying "have some pills and come back every three days" said

"i'm terribly sorry to inform you you're going to have to buy a roller coaster. I'm thinking 50 feet high but we might have to up it to 75 if you don't respond. Ride it three times a day everyday before meals."

Though the psychiatrists would be out of work fast.

If they were open now, a bad day in my life would be cured by Knoebels or Wildwood... two of my favorite places in this world.
I need something to make my bad day better because about 2 hours ago I got in accident and totaled my 1995 black mazda mx-6. So I'm pretty sad right now.
Oh Mamoosh what have you started? ;)

I can think of several coasters that work as a form of escape for me, but one clearly stands out in my mind. SCBB's Giant Dipper. It's long since been passed over by recent wooden coasters in terms of "in your face" intensity. But none of those other coasters can hold a candle to the Dipper's location, right smack dab in the middle of one of the most beautiful boardwalk's in the world. If I'm having a bad day, something about that giant sign pointing you towards the classic ride just gives me goosebumps every time. The ride itself is still a small masterpiece as I probably don't have to tell most of you.

Have you ever considered that it may not be the park that's the problem, but YOU???

Oh Shivering Timbers...will your wheels not turn in the snow?  Would they freeze to the rails?  Just one time around...ok, maybe two.  All I need is to sit in your seat and here the clickety-clack....clickety-clack as we inch up your first hill.  Gazing out over the open land to the left imagining all the wonderful things that will grace its skin in the years to come.  Cresting the top all attention comes back to you...slipping over the top whilst gaining speed to make the journey up the next hill you have in store.  No thoughts of displeasure, all in the contrary, only thoughts of joy and excitement as you sling me over the top again.  Faster....slower...faster....slower as we round the bend and begin our journey back.  You send me down the hill as my feet leave the floor only to bring me back into my seat as you push more excitement into my veins.  Not a single thought of grief enters my mind as you push me to the right and then back to left suddenly, chasing any ill thoughts away that may have tried to creep back in.  It seems as if no speed is lost, only gained as you continue to release me from my seat and return me again in succession over and over again.  Just when things look to be over you press me into the right side of the car as you swirl me around smashing the entire right side of my body.  And then it's over....the only bad thought in my mind is it's over.  But then again, I smile as I realize I can ride the Timbers again. :)

My bad day just got better....how bout yours?

I've just seen the future...what was I saying?

Any coaster can make my day better, but sometimes that's not always practical.

Anytime I'm at work and start to feel stressed out, I take a stroll around the corner from my cubicle and check out the 44th floor view of Navy Pier.  Seeing the ferris wheel set agianst the backdrop of Lake Michigan always makes me smile, especially when it's lit up in the evenings (like right now).

Any ride at PKI makes my day better. The only bad thing is that I'm not old enough to drive myself to the park. When I can't I come on here. It's sort of a back up. That's why I love this site. It's the greatest.

DWeaver - If I lived in the Bay Area you can bet my choice for this topic would be the Giant Dipper.  Its in my Top Ten...definitely a "hidden treasure" with by far the best pre-lift tunnel anywhere.

And MI Trooper1....thanks, I needed that ;-)

When I ride S:RoS and Mind Eraser at SFNE back-to-back all my troubles are gone. Then, I'm in thrill mode, I go from ride to ride running as fast as I possibly can. All my troubles just float away until I have to leave really early at 3:30. *Stupid Paper route* I just had a bad thrill withdrawl yesterday. I wanted to ride Scream! so bad. I miss getting shot up then down 200 feet at a time. C'mon SFNE, it's a mild winter, can you please just open one day before April.

Hey Moosh, I'd take Ghostrider any day over Giant Dipper, although the Dipper is truly a classic piece of coaster history.  What a great ride that is!  For me, most coasters will melt away all my problems and worries from the day.  Except for Vekoma coasters and old Arrows.  Blech!  ;)  Still though, any coaster is better than no coaster at all.  :)

Gosh, dude...towel off the seat when you are done;)   If I had my druthers (which is tough in Seattle), I would pick Ghostrider to cure what ills me.  The best placebo in the world.

Mamba is definitely a ride that can make you forget about everything. Getting major air on its 184 ft. 2nd drop will cure anything.

My choice is definitely a few night rides on the Beast. The sound and smell of the chain, the wood and all the trees on a muggy summer night makes everything all right with the world!

You don't stop playing because you grow old,,,you grow old because you stop playing.

A nice ride or two or three on Ghostrider, plus a launch of Monte does wonders afterschool!

What can I say, coasters are therapeutic...
