Major Park Closing?

Actually this was not unexpected.Busch was one of the previous owners of Cypress Gardens,and had sold it to a businessman back in 1995. Since then the operation has lost six million dollars. Perhaps Busch saw the writing on the wall?

Maybe past rumors wiill come true in the form of Six Flags Cypress Gardens;>)

Closing a park that's losing money is a sad but understandable decision. What I think is ridiculous is that the park is pointing to an attendance drop-off of some 42,000 guests in March 2003 over March 2002.

First, the obvious. War.

Second, the less obvious. Spring Break. Last year every single Florida school held its break in the month of March. This year it's been bumped up to April. Easter falls in April this month. Heck it hasn't even happened (parochial schools won't let out for another week) but while public schools don't like to time their break to any religious holdiay (for separation of church-state reasons) they have all generally let out around the same time.

No, Cypress Gardens is NOT Panama City Beach. It's not a Spring Break mecca. However, a lot of families or kids visiting their Florida grandparents would hit the park during their spring break, before the summer heat.

Even if the land is valuable to a residential developer it's nonsense to have closed the park with such short warning (to give folks a chance to hit the park one last time) and to do so before the end of the peak spring travel season.

This park is only a couple of miles from my Grandma's house, but I have never been. If they could get a loan and build a nice roller coaster, they could get their attendance back, but that won't happen.

hahaha....some of these people will believe anything. i wasnt being mean to you jkpark. i was just saying cuz thats just about impossible and wouldnt think anyone would believe it, yet with some people on this site, i dont know about that anymore.
