The operator of the Magic Springs amusement park says patrons will be able to lather up and drink up for free during the upcoming summer season.

Sunscreen is not that expensive of an option to pick-up at your local grocery or drugstore. Buy a big tube of it (many now come with detachable smaller bottles perfect for cargo shorts etc.), and you're good to go for at least the whole summer.

My thoughts exactly, but I figured I'm fighting a lost cause at this point. :)

We buy a bottle of sunscreen at the beginning of the year for a few bucks and end up throwing away a half empty bottle of sunscreen when one of us stumbles upon it rolling around in the trunk of the car come November.

Repeat come springtime.

Wow, how many of you are in the grumpy old bastard club? :) I swear some of you could find the negative in a cure for cancer.
Some parks would be well advised to consider the "free" drinks idea and some other parks would not. The best place for the idea is small to mid-sized parks with POP admission that are trying to differentiate themselves from other parks or to capture a niche market.

This worked well for HW and LC and I see where parks like GL and AA might be able to use this to their advantage. Parks like KW should NOT do this because they are a good value already and this would only introduce problems in the park.

Please note ... the aforementioned GOB club (Jeff's post, up two) is *not* one of the "partner clubs" on our list (see www.holidayworld.com/clubs). :)

Aww, I printed out this membership card for nothing. :)
What I find strange, is that there appears to be no mention of this new policy anywhere on their website. They should be "selling" this like crazy to get the most mileage out of it.
Well Im thinking of forming the GOB Coaster Club. If we agree to all park terms and conditions would that qualify?

For 2008?

:)

Oooh, I'd join.

As long as we can work with the parks to get ECT. (exclusive complaining time)

^ I can only *imagine* how many GMs would sign up to host a Q&A session with this new club...LOL! :)
Probably a lot, We're least likely to act up and are actually pretty nice in person :)
Well, actually there would be a negative problem with a cure for cancer--financially. A lot of researchers would lose their jobs. Hospitals, hospices, and nursing homes wouldn't be as necessary, nor would the people who work there. The funeral industry would see a huge drop-off in burials as their deaths would be deferred by many years. And don't forget about the layoff at the casket companies because the industry doesn't need the same amount anymore.

Plastic surgeons wouldn't have as many patients to do breast reconstruction work on. MRIs would see a huge drop-off, woman wouldn't buy as many wigs, pharmacuetical companies would lose a ton of money if their drugs were no longer necessary, etc, etc.

You see, I'm always looking on the bright side of life.:)

LOL!

Too much fun. :)

Pharmacuetical companies are very evil crooks anyway. Anytime a natural cure for anything is found they supressed it fearing they will lose profits.

I agree with 98% of your takes Gonch...but not this one. I see your point about how this is financially bad for a person like you.

Well, then there we have it. I'm alone on this one.

I have to ditto Jeffrey on this. Sorry Gonch, but isn't it you who regularly argues that penny-pinching at parks generally makes for a less-enjoyable time than splurging on things like fast-passes and the like that can make a park visit more fun? :)

I certainly don't mind paying a little extra up front to self-serve at the drinking fountains. Maybe not truly free drinks, but positively an additional convenience. IMO, anyway...

Even with the ticket rate increase, I am all for free soft drinks and sunscreen. For one thing I always forget sunscreen! Second, I went to SFTX and paid $11 for a souvenir cup(that was with a coupon from the season pass book). Then, they have taken out the holding cubbies at the side of the rides. The only thing you can put at the exit of a ride now are your shoes. You have to rent a locker at the entrance of the ride, which costs $1. Not bad, except that when you open it up, you have to pay another dollar, and another when you get to a different ride. It's ridiculous!!!!! I will never buy another souvenir cup from them, nor will I buy soft drinks just out of the principle of the matter. Water is free in SF and I will be getting plenty of it when I go to the park from now on, and I will be throwing away the cups when I get on a ride.
