Magic Mountain rehabs

I was looking at vacationing to LA and last time I went Ninja, Superman, and DejaVu were closed. Does anyone here know the typical rehab schedule for SFMM, DL, and Knotts

For Disneyland, check out their official site here. Select the day of your intended visit and scroll to the bottom of the page and it will state what is closed for refurbishment.

Today, Matterhorn and Mulholland Madness are closed.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

This is a big fear for me. When I do eventually get to go to the LA area, it's probably going to be the only time. I don't trust MM.

^You will go there more than once Travis, I predict the future :)

MM is iffy, and SF park is unfortunately. Phone first!

Me - Hey,,, Umm Magic Mountain? Hi there. I am getting ready to plan my flight and vacation for the LA area and I was wondering if you could tell me if any of your big coasters will be down for maintenance or staffing issues in four months when I am planning to visit for the first and probably only time in my life.

Tiny telephone speaker pressed against my ear
- (WAA WAA waa waawaawuu wawaa...)

Me - Oh, you don't have a crystal ball? Okay, sorry. I'll just show up and pray that half of your coasters aren't closed then. Thanks anyways.

No park can tell you what will be open on any particular day, but as they're a year-round park, they should at least be able to tell you 4 months in advance what is scheduled to be down for yearly maintenance.

Hi

Since when has Magic Mountain half of there coasters down? That did not even happen during the dark ages(2000-2005), nevermind these days..

I went to the park in the week following new year's in 07. Ninja and X were down for rehab, although I wasn't surprised by X. Psyclone and Flashback were also still SBNO at the time. Other than that, I got to ride everything, much to my surprise.

While that's true...The one and only trip I had to SFMM saw 4 or 5 coasters down during the day, and since the one Kiddie coaster doesn't allow adults, that was pretty close to half that an adult couldn't ride. And there were quite a few flats not operating. I only got to ride 9 coasters the day I went. So he's not exaggerating by much.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

It feels weird to say this, but that aspect of SFMM is really a thing of the past. The last 2-3 seasons I have been astonished at the uptime of the coasters at that park. In fact, other than the extended downtime that Superman has undergone (because of the changes) and Deja Vu (well, because it's Deja Vu), the park has done a great job keeping every coaster open.

That was a BIG Jay Thomas/Mark Shapiro thing, and that legacy seems to be continuing in their absence.

I forgot about that part. The only flat I remember seeing run during my visit in 07 was the bumper cars. Even the Skycoaster was closed. Most of the food places and shops were closed as well, which made finding lunch a chore.

I find it funny that even after numerous management changes, people continue to carry the misconception of Magic Mountain having multiple coaster closures in a given operating day. Granted, this was true at one point, but is no longer the case.

The irony is that nowadays, you'll find better operations and uptime at Six Flags Magic Mountain than you will at Knott's Berry Farm on an average day, which is a complete 360 from just 10 years ago.

The only coaster currently not in operation at the park is Batman The Ride as the entire Gotham City Backlot area is walled-off and getting a complete overhaul and transformation into DC Universe for the Green Lantern debut on July 1.

Deja Vu is definitely operating right now.

I think that just goes to show how powerful a bad experience (and perception) can be. Some people just get to a point where all the "under new management" signs in the world couldn't make them go back after a bad experience.

Ninja was likely closed due to it being too cold.

I base all of my "misconceptions" about any park on recent trip reports.

Decided to stop by the park for a few hours today. GL is not testing so far, although there are people mulling around te station. Crowds are fairly light, although you can tell school is out.

And yes, all coasters are open!
