Magic Mountain or Las Vegas?

Wednesday, September 26, 2001 5:03 PM
My mom faced me with a tough decision...I have the choice to go to SFMM (with a friend) or Las Vegas (no friend). I can't ask my school friends because they're not coaster fanatics so they wont help. Coaster-wise, which should I choose? Thanks for the help!

My vote would go to Six Flags Magic Mountain. If you have never been to SFMM, then that is another reason to go. Las Vegas has quite a few coasters, but at least three of them (including Desperado) out of five are not worth the price. Speed: The Ride at the Nascar Cafe in the Sahara Hotel is an awesome coaster and Canyon Blaster is a good Arrow coaster (with great airtime in the back seat for a coaster with OTSR). Desperado is getting quite rough and Manhatten Express is pure torture (worst roller coaster ever) and Let it Ride High Roller is boring. Like I said, personally I would pick Six Flags Magic Mountain, especially if X opens up before you go. Six Flags Magic Mountain has 15 coasters with at least 9 or 10 good roller coastes. Las Vegas only has 2 good coasters.

Well, your track record says that you haven't ridden any coasters in Las Vegas, so if I were you, I would go out there.

Try to hit every coaster there. Go to Buffalo Bill's Casino and ride Desperado. Also, you should hit Speed: The Ride (I haven't been on on S:TR but my friend says the coaster kicks ***).

I'm probably heading out to Las Vegas/Six Flags Magic Mountain in December, that is if I want to go, that's if I feel safe getting on a airplane again.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention vital information:
I've been to both SFMM (last summer) and Las vegas (like in 1998). I'm planning to go to one of these places in October.

Edit: StealthmF5m3, I forgot to add them to my track record. Thanks!

SFMM has buch better coasters, there is no comparision. The only coaster at Las Vegas that is in the elite with Magic mountain is Speed. Desperado is Garbage and so is Manhattan Express.

I would go with MM because they have everything Las Vegas does and more.

If you are over 21 then go to Vegas. :) Can't beat a few coasters and a couple of casinos.

Desperado is by no means garbage. It has exactly the same kind of roughness and airtime as Magnum. (heck, they are both old Arrow hypers, right?) I agree that Desperado's layout leaves a little to be desired, but garbage? No way.

Anyway, SFMM would be my choice. You get many more coasters for one price. Everything in Vegas is pay-per-ride (or a one time price for all day) and would end up costing lots more. Then again, with one lucky pull, you could win a million dollars in Vegas!

Desperado is much worse than Magnum. Desperado barely offered any airtime, Golaith is an infinitely better hyper coaster than Desperado. Go to SFMM!!!

Desperado IS garbage. You would think someone like me would never say such a thing about a coaster. I, insanely, never thought Windjammer was as painful. Desperado, by golly, is an @ss beating piece of no good recyclable junk.

Las Vegas sux....hehe i live here. Its a cool place to visit, not to live. I'd pick SFMM as theres more to do unless you got the money. Las Vegas isnt a very cheap place, but there are a lot of discounts on hotel rooms and attractions going on right now.

Vegas is cool, yes... but unless you're over 21, it gets old fast. Go to Magic Mountain. Be with your friend. I'm sure you'll end up having a better time. Magic Mountain is cheaper, too. To do all of the attractions in Las Vegas, it would cost:
Big Shot + High Roller + Tower Admission (mandatory)=$15
Manhattan Express=$10 ($5 if you ride Desperado first)
Desperado (not in Vegas, but close) = $6
AdventureDome=$18
Speed/CyberSpeedway (all-day)=$20

It all adds up fast. If you have a SF season pass, MM is free. If you don't you'd only (:)) end up paying $42 for all of MM, where you'll pay at least $60 for all of Vegas.

You'll have fun either way, guaranteed.
