Magic Mountain, my very first time

Associated parks:
None

I was really looking forward to this trip.  I met up with my friends from NYC including fellow buzzer "sigma gamma rho".  Although we knew X was not going to be open, this was the only time we could all get time off from work at the same time.  Well, we took off early that sunday morn, hoping to beat the crowds and hit up Superman and Goliath before the lines got too long.  My first impression of this park was WOW!  the scenery was the best of any Six flags park I've been to....even my beloved Great Adventure.  you could tell that they made extra effort to keep this park clean, and the landscaping...jeez!  I liked the statues in High Sierra Territory...we took crazy pictures there.

Our first ride of the day....Goliath (total rides - 5).   This this was a walkon, much to my surprise!  I give this ride 7/10.  It had a good drop, but the bleedin thing damn near came to rest at the midcourse brake.  The helices were ok.  I guess my suspicions were confirmed...Nitro is definitely better.  I think it would have been better with more air time laden hills....I guess Gio was trying to be different, anyway......

Second ride, the Riddler (total rides - 2), we waited a mind blowing 3 minutes.  The ride was......eh.  It also gets a 7/10.  I like the drop out of the midcourse brake, which was turned off on that ride.  The bunny hop was ok also, but nothing spectacular about this ride.

Next was Batman, same as all the Batmen I've been on, save the theming was a little more refined.  I give Batman 8.5/10.  It is still my favorite invert.

Next was superman.  Dag that hill to get there was a killer.  (Scratch Tae bo for a week)  The Ice station was cool, we took pictures there also.  The ride itself sucked.  (spits in disgust)  The launch felt slower than 100 mph and the thing goes only half way up the spike.  I give it 5/10....that ride is way over hyped!!!

Next was Gold rusher, Ninja was not open yet  for some reason.  Gold rusher was ok I guess.  I liked how it made use of the terrain.  I give it 6.5/10....cute...but no Runaway train!!

Next was Colossus (total rides - 3).  I was pleasantly surprised by this woody.  I think it is one of the best I've been on.  Now before I get tarred and feathered I'll say that I have not been on many wooden coasters.  Save the midcourse brake that ride was off the heezie for sheezie! (translation - very good)  it crawled around that last curve an we swore we were going to roll back...but it made it.  The last bunny hills were good.  I give that ride 8.75/10!

Our next ride was Revolution, what a cool ride.  The only thing I hated was the shoulder restraints......I could live with the brakes.  The racing through the woods was awesome.  Its amazing that this ride is so old yet still phat.  I give it 7.5/10

Viper was a definite surprise.  It seemed a lot bigger, maybe because it was higher in elevation compared to the other rides.  Anyway, I thought I was going to be bashed to kingdom come.  This ride was way smoother than GASM.  It seemed to race through the final four inversions.  I give this an 8/10......for surpriseability!!!!

Next was Ninja.  I call this ride ......cute.  I like the way they themed the surrounding areas.  We took many pictures in that garden they had adjacent to the ride.  Anyway, back to the ride.  Like everything else this was a walkon.  the ride was definitely short, but a few surprising moments.  Boy does it need a paintjob.  I give it a 6/10.

Our next ride was Psyclone.  People, it is not as bad as I hear ya'll talkin.  Sure it screeches like Mariah in concert and it has some rough moments, but it was not much worst than The beast.  It was kinda fun actually.  I give it a 7.5/10.

Our next and last ride was De Ja Vu.  That ride had the longest line of the day......A whopping 10 mins.  We went on the ride and some blumpkin before us dropped his hat and wanted to go get it.  He held up the ride so as a consolation the ride op gave us an extra ride.  I think that was our favorite ride of the day.  The lift was so fast, and the drop....OMG.  We really welcomed the second ride.  On the return trip we felt some rough moments...but nothing drastic, I give it a 9/10.

Dag, I think this is my longest post.  But I think this was a good trip.  I give my experience a 8.5/10.  Magic Mountian had nice rideops, fairly clean and well landscaped park and cool rides.  They do need some flat rides though, but I guess they have that in their plans.  I can see now why this is the Six Flags Flagship.

Nice report, it sounds like you guys had a really good time.  I can't wait for my Cali invasion in February.

Do you have stairs in your house?
Wow! You were not too excited about Goliath and Riddler's, but you loved Colossus. That is definitely a change of pace from most people's opinions. I'm glad you liked Colossus, because I find it to be a quite enjoyable ride. Sounds like you had a very good time. Did you hit Knott's? Please tell me you did :)

Let me get this right, you give Psyclone a 7.5 and Goliath & Riddler a 7.0?!? I think Nitro (although I have not ridden it) may be better than Goliath, but Psyclone better than Big G AND Riddler? Odd, very odd indeed.

I'm glad you enjoyed your day! I am also glad to see another glowing review of Deja Vu. I LOVE that ride too! (and it's a Vekoma, what is this world coming to?)

"X" marks the spot in 2001!

Ouch! So harsh on Superman! Although I strongly disagree, I'm getting pretty use to the Superman bashing. It's a "had to be there" type of ride at this point. In other words, you had to be there 6 years ago when this thing first opened and no one had ridden anything like it. It was amazing! Although I still find it fairly amazing, I guess it has become quite tame and uneventful compared to other launch rides. Ah, the novelty has finally warn off on old Superman(sigh). I wish more people would realize that so I could ride it(uninterupted) all day long! ;)

The reason why people don't rate S:TE as high as they would normally is because the expectations and hyper are to GREAT! It in fact is a pretty exhilerating experience and is something you shouldn't miss out on.
yeah soggy I think he may have overdone it there, but I think he rated it high because ppl bashed it so much and hyped up Goliath and Riddler.... its more like surpriseabilty rating!!!

I was surprised as well, S:TE is one of my favorite rides....I love the airtime.  I'ts funny how CP doesn't think its a coaster but they consider Wicked Twister a coaster....ehhhh.....I don't get it.

Remember, this is coming from an SFGAdv local. The only good wood they had up there was from all the teenage boys when "Eden's Crush" played a concert there ( *shame* on you jeremy :))

And since I liked Raging Bull FAR ahead of Nitro, I'm thinking I would give Big G the nod. I'll have to see when I ride Titan in May!

A Nigerian Muslim sharia court sentences a pregnant woman found guilty of adultery to be stoned to death, but only after she has finished weaning her baby.
This is known in some parts of the Muslim world as compassionate conservatism

Awesome trip report Antuan. I also think that Psyclone gets a bad rap. I think people over exagerate about how rough Psyclone is. When it first opened it was as rough as people discribe but now its nowhere near as rough. LOL on your comment about Psyclone screeching as loud as Mariah (my favorite singer) in concert because its so true I never thought about that!
