I was going to post this awhile back when I heard rumor of Mackinaw City getting a water park last summer.  I live up here in Cheboygan, so I should be pretty cool to get a water park up here.

Finally, I can convince my parents to drive us up there... the whole Mackinac area (Mackinac Island) is awesome, but heh to have a water park up there will make it even better!

I imagine it'll be cold though ^_^

It's great they're putting something up there, but I have to agree - there aren't many warm days through the season. I would  guess they've done their feasiblity studies to figure a payback, though.

One more reason to go north next summer.

No way!!!! That's so cool!  I always thought they an amusement industry would be welcome up there with all the tourism.  I'm not sure a water park is a good idea though, since it gets cold up there.  An amusement park would do well up there though!

There are plenty of days during the summer that are warm enough for a water park up here.  Plus, most of the businesses in Mackinaw City do all of their business during the summer season anyway.  A water park seems like a perfect fit.

sweet. i have most of my relatives in sault ste. marie (ont.), so to get there from sarnia (across the river from port huron), we go through michigan, and we go through mackinac every time going there and back... maybe i could stop in sometime!

THey've got a rather short season don't they.  Sure from July 4, to to Labor Day they get a lot of visitors, but outside that small period, they don't get much of anything.  I drove up to St. Ignace Saturday, and it was snowing already!  The Master Blaster sure would be great though.

Well!  I'm pleasantly surprised.  A nice hour drive from my parents, but it will be a nice diversion. I have the same reservations about such a short season versus the money, but this could well draw a younger crowd to the Mackinaw area, as opposed to the more sedate crowd that is more usually present.

Question for locals since Shivering Timbers has become one of those "must rides" for me- how far is it from there to MIA?

Michigan is hot in the summer.  In Detroit it gets up over the 90's all the time.  Mackinac isn't that much different.  It's probably only a few degrees lower.  It isn't really that cold at all from May to August.
