Looking for Gwazi knowledge

OK,
I've been on Gwazi once (Tiger side, in front of the back seat) and was rather disappointed in it. I was looking for airtime and was surprised to not get a whole lot. I'm going again in about 2 weeks and wanted to know from those of you who have ridden it where the best place to sit is. I really want to give it a second chance. FloridaFlyer, any suggestions?

Although I have not been on Gwazi, I always try to "cover the train" if the lines will allow for it, and find the best seat. Most woodies ride better in back (for my taste) but some deliver much better rides in the front, or near the front. 3-1 or 2-2 is often a good frontal air spot on lots of woodies, with long trains.

Gotta ride 'em all!
I don't care what some people say, Gwazi Rocks and that's all I'm going to say.
Flyer, I realize this should be in the other section, but will you be there on the 28th and 29th? I'd love to meet up with you briefly to meet the man with more coasters on a track record than I can comprehend! My wife and some friends will be coming too, so I don't want to leave them out in the cold. Do you work the park or just doing the Howl thing?

Hey Flyer, has it ever occurred to you that maybe some people in this world have different likes and dislikes about coasters than you. And I have riden some of the biggest and the best in Florida and outside Florida. You seem to think your this big know it all and just because some people like certain coasters that you don't doesn't give you a reason to criticize them. Seems everytime I put up a message or reply your the first to run you big yap. If you don't have anything kind to say don't say it! You never see me criticizing you for your opinions about rides. I simply state that
I liked certain rides and that's that. Also I have seen a lot of messages on many boards of others who also like Gwazi. So how about letting someone have an opinion about a ride without slamming them. Could you do that?
Cyrbuzz,
Calm down! There is no reason to take anything personal! Flyer is just trying to say that Gwazi isn't as good as the bigtime woodies. I agree it is an o.k. ride at the most, but it is not up to par. To boast the dueling aspect as much as BGT does, you would expect there to be some deuling parts, not just seeing the other train fly by a couple of times. I don't want to get into a war of words about Gwazi. It is just different people like different things. You can like Gwazi or not like it just don't overreact to Flyer's opinion on Gwazi. BGT is my hometown park so don't reply saying I don't know what I am talking about. I hope you don't take any offense to this. Peace.

crybuzz, watch your tone, Florida Flyer's comments were in no way slamming you personally. Shady Z asked for people's OPINIONS on Gwazi, and thatis exactly what FF gave, his OPINION. No need to fly off the handle, these are coasters, not religion or politics.

The chances of 2 people agreeing on ALL rollercoasters is pretty slim, so don't expect everyone to feel the same way as you do about a particular ride.

Sorry to stir up such a hornet nest gang. I did ask Flyer specifically his opinion because when reading many of his posts I agreed with them. He also has ridden so many different types of coasters so I value his opinion. This didn't mean that I only wanted to hear from him about the ride though. I did ask for anyone's info about a possible BEST seat to ride in. I figured though that asking those that claim BGT as their local would give the most accurate results.

Stepping back down...for now.

Well, I recently went to BGT last weekend and I enjoyed GWAZI. I think its a great coaster and suites *my* needs as to what I look for in a wooden coaster. It has more lateral forces/directional changes than anything, inwhich is what I like. Im not really into the *airtime* thing. But, I do notice (airtime) its more towards the back of the train. Have you tried the last seat in the back?
I rode Gwazi in June, and I was pretty disappointed. It is a cool looking layout and the twisting is definitely nice, good lateral Gs, but there is a lack of airtime. There were some pops of air towards the front on the train while cresting hills, but that was about it. It was my first GCI, and as I said, the laterals were good, but I expected more. They hyped up the "100MPH fly-bys" so much, but they really didn't do it for me. *** This post was edited by Camel on 10/19/2000. ***
Hey, "Shady Z":

Just wanted to let you know that I've finally joined CoasterBuzz! I assume you can tell what my Call Name is...

I don't see any Posts by "happgood" though. I guess I'm just not looking in the right places.

Talk with you later!

OK gang,

I rode Gwazi 5 times over the past two days and my opinion has drastically changed. I actually had a blast this time! The lack of airtime I had before was apparently an oversight. I got HUGE pops of air over several of the hills. On one particular hill/turn I swear I was off the seat for 5 seconds. I'm glad I gave it a second chance as I would have been missing out. However, something still must be done about their loading and staff at this ride! I'll go into that more in a brief trip report later in the week.

Also, thanks for meeting up Flyer! Hope we get to see you again.

Im glad you finally saw the light about Gwazi, Shady:). I know it doesnt have an abudance of air but IMO the laterals make up for it....Also, you're right about the loading it was outrageous. Too slow.

I rode Gwazi at night during Howl-O-Scream and it was a blast. I would like to see Busch open later to experience coaster riding in the dark. And I'm glad to see that others do like Gwazi. I got great airtime riding in the back seat. My only complaint is the loading time.
Gwazi is a really good coaster IMO. The dueling aspect is non existant but the coasters individually are very good. Lion has more air. I prefer the lats on Tiger, though.
Gwazi is my youngest coaster-freaks' 1st coaster. And she loves it, naturally. We were on in '99 and last summer. 21 or 22 times total (you'll have to check with her).

I loved it--a little rougher than what I grew up with, but as I'm nearing 40, that's no great surprise.

We love Lion, although not as smooth a layout, but simply because my little freak figgered out that Lion's line is shorter. Good little coaster freak.

I found some good airtime, 5-6 secs--toward the end of the run, last hump before the turn for home. Best toward the back.

Great to have any woody in FL!
