Looking for an old coaster book

I once borrowed a roller coaster book from my local Library about 5 years ago. It was an older book with very old almost now historic coaster pictures of some of the early 80's coaster. I remember it showed Rolling Thunder racing back before it had headrest on the trains, and the unpadded lapbars. They also showed a stand up roller coaster from Togo, but the picture was black and white. It could have been Kings Cobra. I have been looking for this book, and can't find it.

I really cant remember much more about the book other then what I stated above. Does anyone know which book IM talking about? It was such a good book with great pictures.

Hmmm, you may be talking about The Incredible Scream Machine by Robert Cartmell. ©1987.

It is the first coaster book I ever bought. I went to bed reading that book many a night!

BTW, looking through my copy, there is a B&W picture of the Togo stand-up on pg.200. There is also a 3D drawing of the layout on that page too.

This is an excellent book for anyone wanting to see some excellent photos of defunct coasters. Many rare photos of terrifying coasters like the Crystal Beach Cyclone, and an excellent full page photo of it's twin, Lightning in Revere Beach.

There are also photos of the newer coasters of that time (1987) like the Riverside Cyclone, The Beast, Texas Cyclone, etc.

Go to:

for this book. She carries tons of amusement park books, videos, coffee mugs, posters, t-shirts, etc. Click on the "books" link. I had to scroll waaay down (it is between the Idora Park book and the Kennywood book) but she does have it listed for sale at $29.99 which is a great deal considering I paid $49.99 for a hardback version.
