Look Out For TR:TR On The Video Shoot...

'Ello Coaster Fans Who Are Jumping Up And Down They Get To Ride Another Ride When They Thought Coaster Season Was All Over ;)

I'm guessing there are going to be a few people going to the video shoot that haven't been on Tomb Raider The Ride since the beginning of the season? Well, I can tell you it's almost a WHOLE NEW ride!!

I'll be totally honest. I did most of my rides on TR:TR at the beginning of the year, and at the video shoot. Was it fun, yes, but not what I was expecting.

I was at PKI on closing weekend with Shawna and we got QUITE the suprise with TR:TR. We talked to a few mechanics as they got done expecting it and they said this is the best the ride has ever run this year. Everything from the effects, to the flips, to the water they said were perfected.

Shawna and I decided to see what could be so much different. We have ridden this thing around 20+ times already, so we were pretty qualified to see what was improved we assumed....

WOW So this is what the ride is actually suppose to do!!

PKI had changed A LOT of the flip sequences around and this was the first ride we weren't stuck upside down for eons. The part where they usually hold you upside down over the water was now changed to your head is slightly tilted downward over the water now. WARNING!!!! The water works GREAT now. Even the backrow could lick the water. It LITTERALLY stopped and floated right in front of our noses (yes, even in the backrow). If you moved an inch you would have gotten soaked! GREAT job PKI! The heat from the lava was on FULL effect which added to it. One thing that has NEVER worked when we rode (at least I have never seen it before) was they had TONS of sparks flying at the beginning of the ride. It looked very neat and added to the start up. I have heard many times that the "statue's" eyes change and move around, but this was the first time it has worked when I rode it. And they changed around a lot, they followed us all around the building! Stalagtites had a good dripping effect going. And the best part was of the ride, we got to make some full revolutions without spinning (which is great on a GIANT top spin)!!

In all a I can say is that TR:TR is AWESOME now and PKI has greatly improved what it can do. So have a blast on Sat. I wish I could go but wont' make it. Enjoy that preshow ;)

Matthew,

I am not sure if they actually tweaked the ride program or not. I have noticed, depending on where you sit, it seems that the upside down lava scene is different. Where did you sit? I think the back two rows offer a more upside down view of the pit while the front row is tilted a bit on a angle.

Either way, I agree that the ride was running awesome on closing weekend. I got soaked with the water on my second ride of the closing day.

Hello Sean,

Shawna and I got to sit in the back row, about four seats in from the arm closest to the exit. One thing we thought was missing from all our other rides was the flip, hold upside down, and then lower upside down to slightly above the lava pit, then hold. This time it was come flying down from the top flip over and stop so your on your stomach, with your head slightly tilted over the lave and hold, and laugh at people getting soaked ;)

I don't know if they tweaked it from a few previous weekends or not but from the last time we both rode it it sure was, and felt like a great different ride :) I wonder if PKI is going to add some more stuff to it during the off season? This ride seems like it has endless possiblities with that big building it's in.

It would be really wild if they could randomize the sequence a bit.....like have 10 sequences and you never know which one you get. That would definitely make it a reride for me.

This is a ride I would really like to love. The theming, the ride's program.....everything. Sadly, it turns out this ride is jinxed for me. I've managed more than my share of rides, mind you, but lots of little things seem to go wrong. I was lucky enough to be included in the Travel Channel shoot in May. (Oddly enough, PKI actually had trouble FINDING riders then!)

Since May, I have visited the park (if even for just a couple of hours at a time) 56 times this season.

My first bad experience was probably the same as most.....down time. This is the one thing that I completely understand. When one grows up in a park like PKI, one is treated to amazing prototypes. I know that things got better as the year progressed.

Another jinxed moment was when the ride op sorting the crowds in the queue miscounted..leaving me without a seat. I was offered a chance to stand through the pre show again, but then I would not have been able to get my night time Beast ride.

Lots of little things kept me from the ride throughout the season, but by FAR the worst was on closing day. I had to leave the park about 3:00. At 2, I queued up for TR. After a moderate wait, we made it again to where the line is sorted. Suddenly, the emergency light go on. The theme music stops, replaced by the ear-melting repetitive buzz of the fire alarm. As it turns out, some spoiled little self-contained think tank thought it would be funny to pull the alarm at the cave's entrance. A really, really bad way to end the season.

I sadly didn't make the cut for Saturday's shoot, so I now will simply wait through the winter to see if my, and the ride's luck, has changed. For those of you attending, enjoy!

Coasterdime,

Oops, that could have been me. Its hard counting with about 100 people rushing the gates.

SOB_TOM, do you have any idea how much that fire alarm pissed me off?! And that no one admitted to it made all the more annoying. I was not wearing a coat, and having to stand outside until Fire & Safety gave us the okay to go back in was very annoying.

I rode it closing day, and didn't notice any change in the ride program.

Tinkerbell,

Where were you working that day? The reason I ask is, I actually felt sorry for the person counting folks for the first ante chamber.

In my younger days, I always thought about working in a park. I just don't think I could handle some of the people, especially if I had worked as a ride op!

James Moreland

I was driving, and if it is hard for you to count 75 people in 7 minutes, I would feel sorry for you too. :)
