Logan soon to have its very own Thrill Shot

I was taking my wife down to Salt Lake City today for Labor Day to go shopping and on the way out of Logan I saw S&S had just put up a new Thrill Shot.

They put it up where they used to have some bungee towers a long time ago. The site where they have it up is about 5 miles south of their actual headquarters. I can't tell if it is a new design because it looks the same as the prototype they had up before and the one I went on at SFMM. All they have up now are the poles. Hopefully they well get it running soon and I can ride it again because this ride is a rush. If I have a chance to stop by S&S this week I'll ask them about it.

Maybe this is a good sign for the Thrill Shot at SFMM!

Logan? Do you mean the airport in Boston?

No, I'm talking about Logan, Utah. I just figured people would figure it out since I mentioned I was driving to Salt Lake City. Sorry about that.

Lagoon? I know that is near Salt Lake..... I remember seeing it a few times in the area......

This is too funny, he means Logan, Utah. It's a northern city in Utah, it is home to S&S headquarters. Though Lagoon is pretty close to Logan, so I can see how you got them confused added to the spelling (Lagoon/ Logan).

Hey S&SFAN, do you know if S&S let's the public ride their prototypes? I heard they didn't, but it would be pretty sweet if they did. Do you live in Logan, or somewhere else in Utah? You said "on your way out of Logan", just wondering if there's another Utah coaster enthusiast on this board besides me.

Coaster Steve:

As far as I know they S&S doesn't usually let the general public ride a prototype. You usually have to get a special pass/invitation I believe. However, Thrill Shot is not a prototype anymore and where they put it, it looks like they'll have it open to the public. Their new ride "Sky Swatter" is located at their headquaters and I haven't found out if they will open it for public riding or not.

Yes, I do live in Logan. However, I will be moving to Mississippi in Oct. for Undergraduate Pilot Training in the U.S. Air Force.

That could be the prototype of their new "Sky Swatter." Check out s-spower.com for more info on that. Wait, there is no other info. It just says to check back soon for info.

I finally got to ride the "Thrill Shot" tonight here in Logan. They call it the "Sky Sling". I'll give you the specs on it. It is about 40 feet lower than the first model that is still at SFMM and the restraints are massive now. Instead of sitting in a little saddle you sit in a huge chair that has OTSR and then a lap bar. The seats still rotate, but it feels like you are in a big cage now. The original was way scarier! The one thing I did like is that they launch you twice instead of once. After I was done with my ride they let me stay on for another cycle! Bonus.

Anyway after that I got my camera out to take some pictures and I started talking to this guy that was trying to get my wife to ride. He had an S&S shirt on and worked for the company. I had a nice chat with him about the company. He said they hope they will sell more of the new "Thrill Shot" design and hopes Cedar Point and Knott's will put them back in. I asked him why SFMM hadn't opened theirs yet and he told me that SFMM gave them a list of tests they wanted done on the ride and S&S finished all the testing and the ride is fine. He said it is up to SFMM now to open up the ride whenever they want to. I asked them if they want to build wooden rollercoasters now because as you all know they have the head lady from CCI ( sorry I can't remember her name now) He said they have a couple designs and they plan on building wood rollercoasters and then the guy said they were trying to buy another company and I asked him if it was Arrow and he said it was. Next I asked him why they hadn't sold anymore Thrust Air coasters and he said they had a few that they had contracts for and then Sep. 11 happened and everyone backed out of their contracts. He said DODONPA is running great and they hope to sell more contracts to build more Thrust Air coasters. I didn't ride "Swing Thing" yet. That is the new ride at the plant. I hope to do so on Thursday because they are having a media day and the guy said to come on down for it! It was so cool to talk to him and I hope the best for them and I hope to see their rides popping up all over the place again!

The original VertiGO was incredible, but I have to think that it would lose its touch with those additonal restraints. I honestly hope that Knotts does not bring it back. There is a lot better use of the land there in Calico Square...

Yes, you can now pay to ride the two new rides from S&S for just a couple of days! Just like a pay-per-ride, but only today and tomorrow. Yuppers...

I rode Sky Sling and Sky Swatter LAST Weekend and Tonight, I love both rides. Yes, Sling is only 228 Ft Tall, but the overall experience makes up for that. Sky Swatter offers such a different experience than any other ride/attraction I've been on. I have some pics from Last Weekend here: http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/icarus_theride/lst?.dir=/Sky+Sling+and+Sky+Swatter&.src=ph&.order=&.view=t&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/
Dude that is scary those OTSR are just like the one on such TOGO ride as Viper.

Wow, that Sky Swatter thing!!

But i can't really see what it does more than spinning around like a Booster/Sky Scraper. Could anyone describe how it works?

Edit: Ok i have watched at the pics a little bit more and it seems like when you're loading the two seat platforms are facing each other and they're at the ground. Then when everyone is fastened in their seat the platforms are lifted up like an elevator. Then it starts spinning. Looks like an insane ride...

And then the Screaming Squirrel, are you supposed to be riding one that tilted vertical S curve track?
