Our local high school hosts a travelling carnival in the spring and fall. Our son has grown a couple inches since the last time it was here (back when he barely made the requirement for the tea cups), so we decided he'd get much more out of it this time.

There is a great Pho shop right next to the high school that we usually fill up at before heading over. However, this time we had our friend's young kids with us, and we decided it would be easier to eat at home (Pho of course). We tanked up on tendon, tripe, and noodles before dragging our turgid abdomens to see the pretty lights.

After a couple turns on a rickety merry-go-round and tea cups, I convinced my wife to lock herself in a cage with me and get violently flipped repeatedly towards the sky and ground as our son watched in horror. We caught quite a few over-the-top moments before the torture device was stopped (the operator must have noticed our bellies). And we certainly stopped just in time as I came THIS close to decorating the cage with southeast asian cuisine.

After getting our bearings, we asked our son if he wanted to ride the rollercoaster (an electric dragon). He said yes, and just to be sure we asked again before putting him on. He hopped in the back seat like a pro and before we knew it, he was off. He looked pretty nervous at first and was too busy holding on to notice Mom and Dad franticly waving and yelling from the sidelines. I think we had more fun watching, but he didn't seem too traumatized when it was all over. Unfortunately, he didn't want seconds when asked.

The kids finished off the evening on the wheelie cycles and hamilton cars. I was hoping that we could go on the Tilt-a-Whirl...but he didn't quite meet the 40" requirement. Next year perhaps.

We had a great time, but I have a feeling that this will be the last coaster (if you could call it that) that he'll be riding by himself for a while. I think he'll be more comfortable riding with Mom and Dad. So hopefully we can get to the Matterhorn before they instroduce the new rolling stock and rumored increase in height requirement.

So it begins. ;)

Ah the Zipper...best flat ride ever!

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!

I imagine it was a Wisdom coaster. Those are really just really tame kids coasters. I wish I was that lucky to get on a Zipper right now! I wish I was near warm weather.

Do you want to see a nude Zipper? Warning: This is very sad to see. It's only for the faint of heart. http://carnivalwarehouse.com/gallery/album.asp?cat=Windy%20City%20Amusements\2007-2008%20WQ%20Projects\Zippers%20-%20units%201%20and%202&start=0 They are painting it, and it will come back the way Chance intended.
