With a key vote to save Cypress Gardens just a few days away, residents living near the park are forming their own group to work with the new owner. I sent an email to the email address listed in the article a few days ago using Dorney Park as an example of residents and coasters co-existing. With sound absorbing materials (ex. Talon), coasters don't have to be heard. And, most family coasters don't generate a whole lot of noise either.
They wouldn't even need to go that far to find good examples...Universal Studios incorporated a lot of sound dampening with Islands of Adventure...especially with Dueling Dragons as there is a lot of homes as well as a school right behind the park. I would use Sea World as an example too, but the homes aren't all that close to the park.
