Lincoln Park Comet, Feb 2005

I ran a quick search or two and didn't see this posted. I live a short distance away from the land that was once Lincoln Park in Dartmouth, MA. As many of you know, the park's coaster has stood there since the park closed back in the 80's.

Driving by there a few days ago, I happenned to look over at it as I've done countless times over the years, and something seemed odd. So, I did a quick U-Turn and drove back around via the backroad that goes around the side of the park.

It seems that the winter blizzard we had a few weeks ago, which dropped 30 inches of snow on the area, was not kind to the coaster.

The lift hill and first drop have collapsed, I assume due to the weight of the snow and the high winds from the storm. I didn't have my camera on me, so I wasn't able to take any pics.

Even though the coaster has been standing there rotting away since the 80's, it was sad to see it no longer whole. Even though it was very far deteriorated, the proverbial "nail in the coffin" still hits hard with fans of the coaster.

I think John Fetterman actually got mesurments and drew up blueprints from it. The trains are at Little Amereka being restored.

Now from people I know who got permission and looked the coaster over. It wasn't even safe to walk on. (Hardly any of it)

Honestly, sometimes a bulldozer would be a blessing instead of the heartbreak of seeing something like that.

Little A-Merrick-A does have the trains and has expressed interest in building a full-sized woodie at some point in time. In the meantime their going to get their feet wet with the Schmeck Little Dipper Jr. Woodie that opens this year.
Has anyone been able to confirm that the Little Dipper is opening for 2005? I know that was the plan but I haven't heard anything in a while and was wondering if plans had changed.

Confirm? Not really, but Duane still has it listed for '05...

You *might* be confusing this one with the relocated Thunder Eagle, which app. has run into some snafu, and is delayed "until further notice"...

I was just hoping that this project didn't become Thunder Eagle, part 2!

ACE Regional Reps from Region 17 (Scott and Mary Heck) were able to go to Little A-Merrick-A recently and can confirm that at least they have some footers for the Little Dipper done. The park is behind in construction but they still intend to have it done for 2005 from they gathered information wise direct from the park officials.

I drove by there before the blizzard, now i'm going to have to go back sometime and see this, is the whole lifthill down or some of it collapsed or what?
