I will also note that they have owned a total of four Neon's. The first one they bought was in a serious collision two winter's ago. For those of you that say these cars arent safe, the policeman on the scene said that he was amazed that my mom was alive and that the type of car she was in probably saved her life. She walked away without a scratch. Sure the Neon depreciates quickly, however it makes a hell of a starter car for someone buying their first new vehicle and used Neons make good first cars period.
The only two reasons that I don't own a Neon are that they are two small for me to fit in (Chrysler really dropped the ball on that seeing my car is smaller than a Neon and I fit just fine) and it doesnt have enough get up and go for my taste without buying a special racing model (the ACR) and even those are too underpowered.
EDIT: As for the pics that Mike has on his car, I know a lot of people who "rice" up their Neons and like to show them off too. It's a good car to do that with. I think the car looks pretty good myself. *** Edited 2/2/2004 7:26:56 PM UTC by Kick The Sky***
Certain victory.

Racing? Are you sure you're talking about the Dodge Neon?

There is no good car to rice. Ricing evil and should never be attempted or even considered. Seriously, a 20 foot tall wing doesn't make you cool.

I love this 4 cyclinder car mod phase. Now you got these 16 year olds with the mega phone exhaust tips, that buzz like a weed eater on steroids.
HAHAHA. I personally think they sound like overpriced go-carts.
Snap43 said:Neons are junk, atleast the early ones, head gaskets, oil pans, and instrument panel failures. Most wholesalers I know won't take them for free.
I have a '95 Neon Sport. It has had all of those problems. I replaced both the head gasket and oil pan at about 95K. The instriment panel does all kinds of wierd things. I recently had to replace the head light switch, it literally melted down. Even worse, I couldn't get a connector right away, so since I need headlights, I built my own switch :) Anway, it now has 157K miles, the transy is still in good shape, and it is still chuging away.
I also have an '02 PT Cruiser. Sweet car.

What is ricing up ?
It is moding the car, adding things like big, ugly spoilers, ground huging trip, lighting, and the like to make it look like a rice burner.

Hey everyone I think I will devote a web site to my stock yugo with vintage earl scheib paint job-will you all check it out?
I'd go with the Maaco Ambassador Finish.
Neons suck, but if you want to get technical any low end economy car has problems, Sunfires, Cavaliers, Escort/ ZX2's, even those imports, my buddy had 2 different Civics laced with problems.
Few weeks ago I had a transmission shop tell me they needed to pull the transmission due to the amount of oil underneath it. Plus at the same time the oil light was fickering, so I took it to another place who replaced a line for oil that stopped the leak and the oil light flickering. Transmission itself was fine and it was suggested that I change the transmission oil. All it takes is a second opinion to save you several hundred dollars. Be careful who you take your car to because they're all out there to take your money when there's nothing wrong.

I have nothing against Neons... ESPECIALLY the SRT-4. That's a really price-conscious ride that offers excellent speed, accelleration, and has a somewhat pimped-out look when it's basically just a regular Neon with a lotta makeup.

Unfortunately, it only goes so far as manufacturers and brands. The only model breakdown is for the top three awards further down the page.
BTW, the kids tricking out their Hondas and Toyotas today are just like the ones back in the '50's that hotted up old '32 Fords. They're just utilizing the low-cost, used cars that are available to them. For the majority of Californians (where the "tuner" craze started), those are Japanese.

P.S. On topic, from what I recall in talking to the head mechanic/operator at Little A-Merrick-A, they purchased the lift chains and motors from the Lincoln Park Comet.
