I know we've seen the headlines about plans already, but I talked to a reporter from Allentown today who said Dorney specifically named a "LIM coaster" in a zoning variance request last night.
I guess we can pretty much assume that's going to be the Impulse from Geauga Lake.
This is excellent news. We loved V2 at SFGAM last year because we hadn't been on S:UE/Steel Venom since SFO opening year. Impulses are crazy and I especially like the holding brake on that model. With all the new bypasses going up to Allentown via the I-83/rt.30/rt.222 direction from Baltimore, Dorney will be an even easier destination to get to.
Yay for Dorney. I was really impressed with that park when I went for the first time. This is just one step closer to them being a mini Cedar Point. :) I think it will fit right in with their lineup of coasters.
It never ceases to amaze me how one park getting a ride can have anything to do with what the other parks do. They're not connected. It's not like each child in a family getting gifts because it's the fair thing to do.
Actually, it has a lot to do with things. Dorney Park was supposed to get a Morgan coaster for the 1996 season but when the park had difficulty getting the coaster approved, the coaster project was moved to Valleyfair. Had things not turned out the way they did in Allentown, Valleyfair would have waited longer for their Morgan. It stands to reason that if Dorney was in line to get a GCII twister in the very near future (which I understand was the case) and is now getting an Impulse, then another CF park will get the GCII instead. What's so hard to understand about that?
And I'll admit that I was wrong when I was under the impression Dorney wasn't getting the coaster, so... well, whatever...
Far be it for me to speak with Jeff but I think what he was saying is that parks get coasters when corporate feels they need them, not in any kind of "we gave one to X park last year so Y park gets one this year" kind of fashion.
