Lets brainstorm where CP CAN build new coasters!!!

Agreed Olympic10086. I just wish it could be settled once and for all.

For creative places like the post asks for....While riding MF I noticed there seems to be a lot of room for stuff on the island. (I think Paddlewheel Excursions may have a limited life ahead of it) Although it would kind of be a shame, how bout taking down the old Cedars hotel that is a dorm now, and those folks in the nicer buildings down on the causeway? Put a station and queue there, and have a coaster going the opposite direction as MF.

BelmontBabe: You are right, but I have a hard time thinking of the last time a ride bit the dust to make way for a new one. Was it 94 when the Mill race went bye-bye? The more recent closings of Jungle Larry's and the Aquarium don't seem to be directly related to any big new rides. I think they ran their course.

Ya know, im sure CP is a one of the best parks out there, and I know most of you love talking about it. Personally i dont mind it, i like reading things about this park. But this space issue is realllllly really annoying. Who cares if they have space or not, either way they will put in more rides. Be happy with what you have so far and let the park worry about the future!
The reason that CP would never build an impulse is CAPACITY. CP would have to build three of these puppies to handle capacity issues. They are just too big for a shuttle coaster. Also, CP would have to build an entirely new impulse coaster because I highly doubt CF would buy a coaster that is a duplicate of three other paks.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
To answer some of our questions according to Cedar Point they build coaster over the midway and near and around other coasters to bring more excitement to the midway.

Look at what Cedar Point has now there are many different coaster types left until more develop

The one I'm waiting for is the area where the Paddle wheel excursions station is. Someday they'll use that area. Hopefully they'll build a killer CCI that skims the water and blasts though the trees. Ahhhh it's nice to dream isn't it!!!
in the parking lot
To quote Cedar Points website, in the FAQs section...

" Is Cedar Point running out of room to expand?

Cedar Point is not running out of room for expansion. When we added the tallest roller coaster in the world for the 2000 season, we employed strategies that are allowing us to grow in spite of our limited land area. The Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad track was moved to accommodate Millennium Force, and the Giant Wheel was relocated to a vacant space along the beach. Such creative use and rearrangement of our current and future rides and attractions will allow us to keep growing in the future."

Now, back to the original question. To be honest, looking at that wide turn of the new TA2K in Japan gave me an idea. What if a TA2K were to blast off by Gemini and Magnum, go vertical by the beach next to Magnum, and then come down and do a wide turn at high speeds, around the edge of the penisula, right along side the perimeter road. Then jut back in somewhere between MF and Wildcat, and have a few giant bunny hops over the midway, and right back to the station.

I can dream can't I?

But seriously, I feel if CP were embark on a project like this, that they would be 100% successful, even though it is a little far fetched;). *** This post was edited by FloridaCoasterRider on 5/29/2001. ***

Cedar Point does not have a space problem(TM).

But since you asked...

- Aquarium/Oceana/Snoopy Playground. A huge L-shaped area ripe for, well, you figure it out. Oceana will go away, that I know for certain.
- The island.
- The area between the Lagoon and the railroad.
- An area between Gemini and Mean Streak, extending across the tracks and midway to the area behind Mine Ride.
- The entire property where Cedars (employee dorm) now sits. It won't last forever. Ditto for Gold dorms on the opposite side of Corkscrew.
- The forward parking lot area behind Space Spiral up to the back side of the games area.
- An out-and-back path from the interior of the park to almost anywhere, including the marina, the beach, the parking lots, the campground, the aforementioned Cedars area, Dick Kinzel's back yard, etc.

And I haven't even begun to be creative.

Consider this: Ocean Motion and Schwabinchen were allegedly supposed to be moved last year.

Look what they did for millennium force they moved the giant Ferris wheel. So they could literally move any of the smaller flat rides and set up a coaster anywhere. I would like to see a coaster that goes around the park from one side to the other like a giant circle weaving in between some of the other rides *** This post was edited by Dennis on 5/30/2001. ***
Now let me be specific here, a park techinically is always 'running' out of room each time a new ride is added. So then CP is 'runnin' out of room, but they have a long ways to go before problems with space turn up.

Even if CP had a space problem they could still fit in an impulse.

And Why Not?

1. SFWoA alread has one.

2. CP coasters, first and foremost, are capacity machines. Just look at every major coaster at Cedar Point. Those impulse rides just don't cut it.

3. It wouldn't be a major improvement over anything else they have. Considering that they have the 2 best steel coasters in the world, the best standup in the world, one of the best inverteds, the 2nd largest woodie in the world, and a slew of other really awsome rides, an Impulse would just kinda get lost in the mix.

4. Impulse coasters are highly overrated. (Sorry, had to get a little personal opinion in there.)

5. Cedar Point generally concentrates on giving their guests experiences that are unique to Cedar Point aka don't look for any clones anytime soon.

6. Every new, major CP ride is destined to make a large impact on the industry as a whole, and an Impulse just wouldn't acheive that.

Ok, somebody that is a real CP expert, did i do a reasonably good job with that one?

Jim Rome always says, "If you don't like the topic, then change the station." I realize how difficult it is to read about a topic over and over, but for some reason, this topic has ALWAYS been a part of our CP hot stove.

Keep the comments and suggestions brewing, this always sparks my interest....eh...speaking of 'brew'...gotta go...

Uh oh, here comes the beer angle. Thanks, Woody!

Seriously though, regardless of what they are going to build (I'm chums with the Lemon Chill Guy, so I actually know), there is plenty of room out there.

Hmmm...now what is "L-shaped" that would be something CP could use...and what ride did a Cedar Fair higher-up (was it Kinzel?) say the following about: "Every park should have one of these." (or something to that effect)

Could it be we'll be riding with a ghost at CP next year?
Well if CP keeps moving and tearing down stuff to put in new coasters they are all going to be really expensive.

I think the best place for a new coaster is to the right of Mean Streak. Considering how short the thrust airs are it would seem like a good place for one, but would CP get a ride with such low capacity and maintence trouble. That space reminds me of the area where Deja Vu is built at SFMM.

All I know is that for just about every previous 2 years in the past CP has built the biggest or longest of a particular type of coaster or free-fall turbo drop ride. I don't think they will change that pattern. Except maybe they will wait three years like between Raptor and Mantis.

I'm just not worried about it because I know CP will get something that will amaze us all. They always do.

Cedar Point has been tearing down and/or moving things for decades. It's nonot something they've just started doing recently to accommodate big roller coasters.

Jungle Larry's was moved, and later removed... Wildcat was moved twice (ah, technically, moved once and then moved I think to Valleyfair! while CP got a new Wildcat)... Jumbo Jet, gone... Pioneer Lift, gone... Giant Slide, gone... Dodgem one, moved... Wax Museum, gone...Shoot the Rapids, gone... Funhouse, gone... Double wheel, gone and the STar Jets too.

we can only pray. it seems as though the hints are really pointing to that.
