Legoland California names its new model builder

Hopeful contenders came from as far away as Virginia to compete in a battle of creativity and strategy, but only one has been offered the elite position of Model Builder at LEGOLAND California. Jason Poland from Houston, Texas will get paid to play with toys after beating out 22 other finalists in the ultimate build-off at the family theme park in Carlsbad. Each finalist pre-selected up to ten-pounds of LEGO bricks the day before the competition and was also supplied with bins of assorted LEGO elements. Finalists had two hours to use their imagination and build a LEGO model that would fit well into an existing LEGOLAND attraction or would be a good addition to the 128-acre theme park. Judges Pat DeMaria, Model Shop manager, John Jakobsen, president and general manager of LEGOLAND California and Liz Erickson, president of The Art Institute of California, San Diego, were impressed by all of the models built today, but felt that Poland's model was the best.

I built a life size statue of Paris Hilton but lost the contest due to the fact that the park said that no power washer could ever keep it clean.

So here's a question... Do they apply some kind of adhesive or something to these things to keep them together?

The models that are put on display in the park are glued together. They have a a viewing area at the model building shop where you can watch the model builders at work through a large plate glass window.

Yah, I think they build them without glue first and then disassemble and then reassemble with glue.

The winner, Jason, went out to celebrate that night and the restaurant was really crowded. When his table was ready the hostess got on the PA and said, "Geek, party of're table is ready."

You know Moosh, at least he's the best geek. It could be worse. I wouldn't want to be called the 2nd best geek. :)
