I don't know how long this is available, but (today anyway) you can watch the TV news story from their website:

Apparently the troop leader ran off with the girls' cookie money and the troop had to cancel plans to visit Holiday World.
What a world!

Wow! Holiday World sure does sound like one heck of a park. After reading the Holiday World topics and such, and now this, Holiday World sure seems like a great park filled with kind and caring people. You guys rock!
I can't believe someone would do that to those girls. I know I have seen them work hard (and sell the best darn cookies out there), and to have it taken away is just horrible.
**In hopes of getting to Holiday World sometime soon, but it is quiet hard coming from SoCal.**

Wow, this does it!
Hey Paula I was just driving from Wisconsin Dell back down to metropolitan Milwaukee and there is a LOT of farmland on the way down here. Want to consider opening a 2nd Holiday World?! If you would I'd take a trip there way before a trip to SFGAm. It may sound ridiculous but heck, the number 2 vacation city in the midwest (Wisconsin Dells) teamed with the number 2 Amusement park in the midwest (Holiday World) What a great mix that would be!

Welcome to Six Flags Great America, home of the fastlane and delay-ja vu! We have now officially been deemed the world-wide wait!
Here's the script of that news story:
(LOUISVILLE, April 5th, 2002, 6:33 p.m.) -- Some Kentuckiana Girl Scouts were wiping their tears away Friday and replacing them with big smiles. As WAVE 3 reported on Thursday, their troop leader took off with thousands of dollars and their cookie money. But on Friday the girls have new hope. WAVE 3's Charla Young has the story of your generous spirit.
The morning started with a phone call from a local businessman who was prepared to write the girl scouts a check for $800, and it ended with a little Brownie Troop out of Orleans, Indiana. They called in to sacrifice a portion of their profits. Dozens were prepared to save the day.
Yesterday was not a very good day for an 11-year-old Girl Scout. Probably only one word to describe it -- sad. On Thursday, WAVE 3 told you how the leader of troop 711 and the almost $4,000 raised from selling cookies just disappeared. The girls had planned to take their profits on a trip to Holiday World, but it was canceled. No money, no trip.
But on Friday it was a different story for young Kelley Page and the other eight girls in her troop. "We get free tickets to Holiday World," she said. In a letter labeled high priority, the young girls got a breakthrough. The president of Holiday World, Will Koch, wrote, "We saw the news yesterday and decided to give you free tickets. So don't worry about it anymore."
"It makes you feel real good to know there are more honest people than dishonest people," said Kelley's granddad Larry Nale.
And the generosity did not stop there. WAVE 3 was flooded with phone calls and emails from viewers like you.
One man wrote, "I think this is terrible. I would like to know how I can send some money for these young ladies. I don't have much, but I would like to send $25." Another man wanted to know if they have set up a fund so that private individuals can donate money. One lady said, "My husband and I would love to be able to help the troop so that the girls can enjoy a trip."
And now they can. Even if their troop leader and the money is never found. "They're nice to give us free tickets," Kelley said.
We are still getting phone calls and emails from viewers. The Kentuckiana Girl Scout Council is telling everyone to wait before sending in any donations. They want to complete their investigation, try to find the troop leader, and then determine what will be done. But we will keep you posted.

As an update...
I received a phone call from a woman Friday who used to live near the leader who ran off with the cookie money. She had recently received an email from the thief--so she called "Crime Busters" and turned her in.
It'll be interesting to see how this all turns out. Or, how the cookies crumble... :)

I have not visited Holiday World yet, but come hell or high water I will make my way out there this year. Holiday World is a class act and it would be great if there were more amusement parks, and more businesses like Holiday World.
