Launches for Knex

I just built a good Top Thrill Dragster out of knex and have rollback brakes, brakes and the spiral. Its 5 feet tall. All i need is a good launch (besides the rubberband). Any Ideas on how to launch it.

(I cant post pictures because i dont have a digital camera or scanner)

If you wait 7 more days (Aug. 10th), you can purchase the new K'nex launched coaster kit.

Or you can buy it today at certain Target stores. I have mine, and it's way cool. The cats love it.

Do you guys have any cheaper soulutions though. I want to buy Rippin Rocket but its $80. I'd rather use something I already have.

Yeah, I would buy the Rippin Rockets set. Seems kinda foolish to try and make one outta the other K'nex set. Why try to imitate when you can go out and buy the real thing. Mow lawns or sumin to try and save up cash.

Gotta love Cleveland area Target stores. They are selling the Screamin' Serpent set really cheap and I saw yesterday the Rippin' Rocket on the shelves. I think I'm still going to wait till the price goes down a little more...

SFMM Update!

Has any one made a launch out of magnets. That would be pretty cool.

Didn't somebody make TTD launch using the Six Flags coaster set?

I'm sure you can make your own catapult system. You say you don't want to use rubberbands, but i am assuming that is because you dont want the "cheap" effect of pulling the train back yourself. Why not try some sort of crank mechanism where the train latches onto the rubber band and the crank moves the ends of the rubberband forward (rather than moving the middle of the rubberband backwards).

As for magnets, I remember some peeps a few months ago discussing the possibilities of magnetic launches and K'nex.

I remember seeing a TTD recreation made using the Six Flags Coaster sets. I worked with the possibility myself of using the Six Flags track with Knex supports and found it to work quite well. I think the Six Flags cars and track tend to work better than the Knex, but the supports for the Six Flags track suck.

BTW, on a side note, the Six Flags Cool Coasters sets can now be purchased at Six Flags, or at least at SFGAm. I saw a few there at the Flags store near the entrance. I believe that every Six Flags has a Flags store, at least all four Six Flags I have been to have had one.
