The Wildwood piers extend over the beach and the town won't sell the beach to a developer, and Seaside's piers sit over the actual ocean, so no chance of them getting bulldozed for condos or retail, either.
....actually the main reason noone wants to is because of the high amount of miney involved in buying the beach property and then trying to build there. Last I heard it was a few thousand dollars a sq. ft to buy beach area in wildwood(in the early 90's) don't think it came down much since then. which was a reason given to me why they don't expand the piers. Maybe someone knows for sure.
...now if they'd only do something with Hunt's and the old sportland pier besides Go-Karts. Wouldn't uret them to actually add rides either.

Morey's wound up buying Hunt's Pier anyway, although I don't think their future plans include rides. Its been a few years and nothing has happened, so I have no idea what happened to those plans. Not sure who owns Sportland Pier, but it seems like the owners are happy with just go-karts.
The only thing I know for sure about ownership of beach in Wildwood is "Riparian Rights" (sp?). What that basically says is that anyone who owns actual beach land (right now, just amusement piers) can build all the way to the high water park. If you look at 1950s pics of Hunt's Pier, you'll see that the Flyer barely fit on the pier, but as the Wildwood beach gets wider and wider, the piers get longer and longer because the owners can build out to the ocean.
