Las Vegas coaster report. June 18.

Well after my fantastic experience of Magic Mountain, Vegas was always going to have to try hard to compete.

The Manhattan Express. Well I had heard that this was rough, and it is. I think only TOGO can actually make a straight piece of track rough, and they have, the ride is fun though, 2 big drops at the start an average loop and the piece de resistance the turn and dive loop (not sure on it’s actually name). I loved this maneuver and is worth the price of admission as well, good on them for trying something different. The rest of the ride is a bit tame, some turns and bunny hops, where I did actually get some airtime. Overall an average coaster, which is way too rough to enjoy but an incredible inversion, that keeps this ride above mediocrity. Rode once at the back. Cost $10 no flyers around at all. 5/10

Speed. Having ridden early generation launched rides, I was unsure what more this had to offer other than a loop. But boy was I surprised. This is an excellent coaster. The first LIM launch is fun with a heavily banked first turn down into a tunnel and then the loop. A bit of a head chop going in to the tunnel which would be improved with mist sprays I think. The loop is fun but it is the second LIM’s and the right and left turns up to the tower which I loved. The way back is fun as well, with heavy G’s on the Loop if you are sitting at the back. The ride is a must if you are in Vegas, it is very smooth and so much fun. They were giving two rides for the price of one, which was cool, but I had an unlimited pass so rode it 10 times. The front is great for visuals, but I preferred the back, for the speed. Cost was $12 unlimited with a $4 coupon (I think) 8/10

Canyon Blaster. I rode this when I was in Vegas 5 years ago, and it is still fun. It looks really impressive, as they have crammed so much into a fairly small indoor area. The lift hill turns around and drops into 2 loops, then turns 180 degrees into 2 corkscrews, a couple of helixes follow and that’s about it. The ride is still amazingly smooth for an Arrow. I imagine that is because it is inside and has never got hot or wet. I rode it twice, once at the back and once at the front. I preferred the front for some reason?? It cost $18.95 for unlimited rides in the whole Adventure Dome but I got a 2 for 1 flyer, so it only cost $9. 6/10

I had a great time, as basically Speed was so much fun. Wet and wild was also a good day out, and The big shot certainly gets the adrenaline flowing.

I think they used to have misters on Speed, but they've gradually disappeared over time.

Sounds like you had fun, Going to Vegas is always fun. You really should have skipped Circus Circus and gone to the stratosphere, it was only a 5 minute walk from Sahara.

How much more floorless can they get?
