Lakeside-7/16/03

I visited Lakeside last night for the first time this season.

Got to the park around 6 o'clock, right when they were starting to open up the major rides. I was disapointed to see that the reconstruction of the Whip was not yet finished, but on my last visit the cars were not on the track, and they have been placed on now, so it should be opening soon.

First we decided to ride the new dark ride from last year, Flight to Mars. I think this is a great ride no matter what anybody says.

Next, we took a ride on the Cyclone. I have to say that I was slightly disapointed, the cars seemed to have less padding which made the ride a little more rough then I like. But the air time on the bunny hops is still awsome and this is still my favorite coaster. The twisting tunnel at the beginning of the ride is the best, especially at night.

After the Cyclone, we rode the Scrambler, and followed that up with the Wild Chipmunk. I LOVE THIS RIDE! It is the only coaster that actually scares me, the combination of it being from 1955 and no restraints makes this one great ride. It is one of only four left, which makes it even better.

After that we went on the Auto Skooters or bumper cars. I had a lot of fun, it's the first ones I have been on since SFEG took theres out last season.

We hit few more rides in the park before we decided to head home.

All and all, I had a great time, despite the fact that I wasn't too pleased with the employees. They are lazy, spiels are hardly ever given. I believe safety spiels are neccesary, especially when ride rules are not posted on all the rides. Lakeside is a great park, but it has the potential to be a better park. Simple things like re-painting rides and taking down defunct ones like the Staride would do this park wonders. However, I have to give them props on only having one ride down, the Sattelite.

If you come to Denver, you have to visit Lakeside. It is only 15 bucks for an unlimited ride band during the week and like 20 on weekends. It is a great park no matter what anybody says.

Its kind of hard for them to do some of these improvments being a small park. What is that Mars dark ride like?

The Flight to Mars ride is a GREAT ride. They added something this year(at least I believe its new) to the ride that scared the living crap out of me. Its just like a chainsaw noise, but I still wasn't expecting it.

No matter the size of the park, you can still teach your employees to not be lazy and more courtious.
