Lake Compounce denied state funds to move road

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Lake Compounce was counting on $3.3 million in state aid before it undertakes a five-year project to add to its Splash Harbor water park, but that money won't be forthcoming this year. The project lost its last chance for funding in 2008 when it was left off the agenda of the State Bond Commission. The money would help address the cost of moving a road to enable the expansion.

I work for the state of CT and I also go to LC multiple times per year, and I'm damn happy they aren't paying for this road to get moved. The state has already had an ongoing hiring freeze all year long, and we're possibly facing layoffs or union contract renegotiations.

Personally, my job security matters a lot more to me than a waterpark expansion.

Luckily I'm considered an essential employee, so I probably wont be laid off, but if my benefits and pay get cut down this job would not be worth it.

Personally Im sick of Kennywood Entertainment making demands of Govt. Kennywood not going to expand until state builds a multi billion dollar highway. LC not going to expand waterpark. While both these parks are a little off the beaten path. People who want to go, will find a way. Same as LC. IMHO they are not hurting for land, Maybe some more creative engineering on their part would have gone a long way in their long run plan.I hear Quassy wants to build a woodie. Give them the three million. JUST KIDDINGChuck

An uninformed one.

As has been mentioned many times before, Lake Compounce needs that road to be moved to expand the waterpark. The deal was for the state to pay for the road and get paid back by the increase in tax revenues. If they don't get enough taxes back from increased attendance, the park was to pay them back.
