The venerable Lagoon Amusement Park faced a crisis in 1953 when a fire destroyed the west side of the park's midway, including the dance pavilion, fun house and part of the roller coaster. As it turns out, the fire might have been a blessing in disguise. Robert Freed, then president of the family-owned theme park, vowed to rebuild and add new attractions each year. This summer is no exception, starting with the addition of the $10 million Wicked roller coaster that keeps up Lagoon's reputation as home to innovative thrill rides.

For those who don't know, this has been another Maverick of sorts. When the coaster was inspected, they found several pieces of track with bad welds. Those track pieces had to be removed.

Actually, it's not open yet. The title is misleading. They are testing the ride, and it may open shortly, but I would guess sometime early June.

Well It's offical! The Wicked is now open! Waited a couple of hours to open but worth the wait! It's one of a kind and it rocked! I'm glad I have a season passport, because I'm going to ride it at least 6 x's a week! 9.25 out of 10
