KW's Laser Loop

Sorry if I am missing the obvious, but why was this ride taken out?
It looks like a lot of fun, and in my opinion it would enhance an already great park.
Anyone know more about this than me??

It was taken out to add the Steel Phantom. The ride now sits at a park in Mexico somewhere.
Chapultepec, to be exact.

It did enhance the park, but was removed for further enhancement just like Steel Phantom's loops were removed so Phantom's Revenge could enhance the park. What would you rather have? Laser Loop or Phantom's Revenge? ;)

If you care that much about the old Laser Loop, sleep easy knowing parts of it remain. Footers as well as the actual roof from the station are still around.

That ride could have been moved instead of removed. A shuttle loop takes up a minimum amount of space, and will fit in some pretty tight areas. He's right, it would only add to their current lineup, especially considering there are no loops there now.

Also, the powerhouse that held the controls for Laser Loop also remains. It's the blue concrete building with "Kennywood" painted on the side as you queue for PR!
I read a book about the history of kennywood, in which they discussed why the Laser Loop was removed. They had a lot of mechanical and electrical problems with the ride, including having the replace the entire clutch system one month before it was removed - this cost them $20,000. So it was removed and the Steel Phantom moved in.

"Well, I wouldn't say I've been MISSING it, Bob."
Yeah, lots of maintenance was need for the Laser Loop. I have heard it been called various things by the mechanics like, "Loser Loop" and "Lazy Loop."

At the time that they removed the Laser Loop, the parking lot occupied the current location of Lost Kennywood, so the park was landlocked then. In 1992, that parking lot was moved across the street to get ready for construction of Lost Kennywood, which would open in 1995 after a year's delay after the construction workers found remnants of the old swimming pool under the ground.

Neil: I've always wondered what that building is! I never knew if I could correctly associate it with Laser Loop. I knew LL sat over that, but I didn't know if it was a part of the actual ride. Does it currently serve any purpose?

As far as I know, Lynch, I've been told that it houses the generators for PR, but it seems unlikely since it sits so far from the lift motor and the station itself. My guess is that it's just storage, or something.

When the Laser Loop was around, it sat right on top of that building, which faced the parking lot and Kennywood Blvd., and the second entrance to the park was right next to it. (Anyone else remember when KW had 2 entrances?) Hence why it was painted with the Kennywood logo. I remember walking past the building, and right when they launched the Laser Loop, you would hear this loud roar come from that building.

The building you guys are referring to is the Laser Loop substation. It's an electrical distribution center for that area of the park. Inside, it's pretty boring. A bunch of breaker panels and transformers. Power from there feeds PR, some games and refreshments, and not much else. It also used to feed the Tri-Star.

The building never housed actual parts for the Laser Loop, just the power source.

Proud to have Laser Loop included in my track record :)

Just saying...
Here's a thread I started at KPU about whatever happened to the LL. http://www.kpunlimited.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=1&topic=203

I even gave a link to an old picture I had of it showing the huge line its had that day.
