Kumba- Problems

Here is a good pic of the rust. When I rode Kumba, I thought it was smooth.

There is many things built designed to rust. Aside from statues & such, many buildings, towers, supports, are supposed to rust. Dome roofs, stuff like that. Good planning on some of those projects can leave a planned color type thing, they know & plan for what the rust is going to look like.

Thankfully, not all steel/aluminum keeps that chain-link fence color brightness. I like a natural look.

But, rust on the rides, I think people like it better when rides aren't "rusty things". Not that a little rust hurts anybody.

....but as for having a fat head, your skinny head should slam more, since there's a farther distance your head could really travel. A fat head should fill the area up nicely. Maybe they hold on tighter, & it makes 'em get a rougher head, who knows? But maybe some people just don't like getting thrown around. They're WHIMPS! Not really, they're probally taller than you, in the seated position:)?

About employees not knowing what is wrong with the ride....yes a lot of the times they do not know what is wrong but not only that are not allowed to tell guests what is wrong even if they do know...I believe this is the policy at most major parks.

Smaller head having more room to hit? Well my head is above the tops of the harness to start with, but i think more room gives you more time to move therefore hitting less...unless you are riding it so loose that you bash it..I dont know..It was just a thought.

Not knowing what is going on this year, I will tell you what we found last year...

We visited BGT during the first week of March and Kumba was listed as being down. We inquired and were told that "It's down for its anual maintenance. All of the other coasters have already been through this... now its Kumba's turn."

However, it did open later in the day (around 3pm).

"rust"=oxidation. If you want a steel ride to never rust, you'll need to put it in a dome with NO oxygen. Talk about feeling light-headed after a ride!

There is a difference to be noted between a small amount of surface rust, which will turn the trackwork a bit orangey, and wouldn't affect the ride's smoothness much at ALL. Then again, a large amount of rust might require "resurfacing/paint", or under extreme circumstances, replacement of some track, and might make the ride a bit rougher....important to note: Kumba is an "older" B&M, but it WAS taken down for about a month or so (if memory serves) the year before last. Having year-round parks means rides WILL have downtime during the "slow season".

Appropriate segue...if you're traveling to CA/FL to ride in the off-season, contacting the parks about KNOWN ride closures can prevent some disappointment...

I just rode Kumba in June or July and it was pretty smooth. The Cobra Roll was a tad rough, but the ride was really good. Brakes are barely on, great pacing, and a great backseat ride.
